An official trailer has been released for The Lost Symbol, an adaptation of Dan Brown’s novel of the same name being developed as a prequel to the Da Vinci Code movies for Peacock. The series stars Ashley Zukerman as protagonist, Robert Langdon (played by Tom Hanks in the film series), alongside Eddie Izzard, Valorie Curry, Sumalee Montano, Beau Knapp, and Rick Gonzalez. The Lost Symbol is being developed as a Peacock original series, with no official release date announced as of yet.

Dan Brown’s Robert Langdon novels, which began in 2000 with Angels & Demons and most recently included 2017’s Origin, is one of the best-selling adult book series of all time, with The Lost Symbol having sold a million copies on its first day of publication. That success has been translated to the big screen with the Tom Hanks-led adaptations of The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, and Inferno. The stories consist primarily of thriller-toned treasure hunts and historical conspiracy theories, which Langdon solves using his knowledge of art history and ancient symbols.

A new Langdon adaptation is now on the way in the form of a Lost Symbol series for Peacock, which has been revealed in a new trailer. The footage shows Zukerman’s Langdon, Izzard’s Peter Solomon, and the rest of the cast traversing catacombs, fighting bad guys, and deciphering a myriad of mysterious markings. It’s exactly the kind of action fans of the novels would expect, and it’s a promising look at what’s to come. Watch the trailer for The Lost Symbol below:

In Brown’s version of the story, The Lost Symbol is both the third book published and the third chronologically, taking place after the events of Angels & Demons and The Da Vinci Code. The Peacock series will be changing that timeline up, setting the events of The Lost Symbol as a prequel to the other stories and featuring a younger version of Langdon as a result. It appears that the core beats of the story will remain the same despite this change.

The Lost Symbol is one of several original projects currently in development for Peacock. Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max have dominated much of the attention around original streaming content recently, and NBCUniversal will be hoping to break into that space more concretely with shows and movies of its own. Given the massive success of Brown’s novels, the The Lost Symbol could be a big success for the platform when it releases.
