Filming is underway on X-Men: Dark Phoenix, and it didn't take long for set photos to surface featuring Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) and his new visor. Sheridan joined the X-Men universe with X-Men: Apocalypse last year as young, shy, and scared Scott Summers. While he may have started out doubting himself, by the end of the film he has begun to gain control over his abilities and had a big role to play in the team eventually taking down Apocalypse.

In just his first movie, Cyclops underwent a few costume changes. He started out wearing specially designed glasses that cannot be destroyed by his optic blasts, but receives an upgrade at the end of the film to the more classical visor. Hopefully audiences did not get too attached to that visor, because he'll have a new one in Dark Phoenix.

X-Men Updates has revealed the first set photos from Dark Phoenix, showcasing Sheridan standing tall with a visor that is noticeably new. Following the large mask version from Apocalypse, Cyclops has received an upgrade to a more traditional visor.

Even though audiences only had a chance to see his first actual visor for a few seconds, Cyclops will have had the opportunity to use it plenty between films. With Fox's rebooted franchise, they've taken the approach to have significant time pass in the movie world between films. X-Men: First Class took place in 1962, X-Men: Days of Future Past was in 1973, Apocalypse in 1983, and Dark Phoenix is reportedly taking place in 1992. This time jump gives Cyclops nine years to use his previous visor, and now he's switched things up. His new visor may not have the traditional style that covers up Summers' ears, but this design has been used plenty before - and is very similar to the design James Marsden wore back in X-Men 2.

Now that we've received a look at Cyclops and his new costume, with filming underway, it may only be a matter of time before we get to see the updated designs for the rest of the cast. Sheridan's fellow young mutants from Apocalypse will all be joining him, and it should be expected that Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), and Quicksilver (Evan Peters) have received some upgrades as well. With San Diego Comic-Con right around the corner and Fox confirmed to be presenting, maybe they'll bring a full cast image with official looks at everyone to the convention.
