Spoiler Warning For Teen Titans #47

Cyborg is easily the most well known Teen Titan who has never been Robin. Through his appearances in the comics and his prominent role in the Teen Titans animated series, Cyborg has become one of DC's most important heroes. DC had so much faith in him that they even made him a founding member of the Justice League when the DC Universe was rebooted. While this made Cyborg more visible than ever, it, unfortunately, left him without a connection to the team that made him most famous. But in Teen Titans #47, that's about to change.

The story, from writer Robbie Thompson and artist Javi Fernandez, is the final issue for the Teen Titans. The team has been going through a rough patch ever since all of their villains broke out of jail. The team had a meltdown upon realizing how much they messed up, resulting in Batman confronting them and Damian quitting the Teen Titans. After the remaining members catch all of the escaped villains, they wonder whether they're even a team anymore, which is when they discover a note from the former Robin. The note brings them to a rooftop where they find, not Damian, but Nightwing. Nightwing praises the team and gives them an offer to join his group of Titans. They agree and Nightwing introduces them to the new Teen Titans, consisting of Donna Troy, Beast Boy, Starfire, Raven, and Cyborg, reuniting the Teen Titans animated team for the first time in almost a decade.

While the moment might seem innocuous to many, fans of both the animated series and the comics have been wanting to see this for some time. Ever since the controversial New 52 reboot in 2011, DC has consistently denied that Cyborg has any connection to the Teen Titans. What makes the matter complicated though is the New 52's own reboot, Rebirth. That reboot, while well-received, left many confused about what exactly is and isn't in continuity. All of this will leave readers questioning what any of it means for Cyborg's place on this new team of Titans.

Given that Cyborg hasn't had his own series since 2018, it isn't like DC has been building up to this either. The most interaction Cyborg has had with the Titans before this issue was a conversation he had with Raven in the pages of Dark Nights: Death Metal. All of this leaves a mountain of opportunity for potential stories. How will this version of Cyborg interact with this version of the Titans? How will he handle being a mentor to the younger Titans? This ending opens up a great deal of potential for all of the characters.  Cyborg's best stories involve the Teen Titans, so readers can be confident that whatever story is told will at least be interesting.

Still, it remains to be seen what the future of the Titans even is in the DC Universe. This was the final issue for the last team, and a series following the new team has yet to be announced. There have also been rumors that DC will abandon their shared-universe altogether, which could mean any number of things for Cyborg and the Titans. Fans can only hope that Cyborg rejoining the Teen Titans is a sign that DC has big plans for the hero and his team.
