Warning: Spoilers for Dark Knights of Steel #7!

The limited series, Dark Knights of Steel, is a wild romp through an alternate Earth that sees familiar DC characters interact in a setting ripped straight out of Game of Thrones, and now with the arrival of the Teen Titans member known as Cyborg, another popular DC hero has been given an amazing medieval redesign!

As seen in Dark Knights of Steel #7 by Tom Taylor and Nathan Gooden, Cyborg and his Teen Titan compatriots of Raven, Beast Boy, and Starfire have only just been introduced to the series and have arrived with new redesigns that fit them well. Mixing the world of DC Comics with a medieval-esque setting full of magic, politics, war, and a twist on the relationship between Batman and Superman that fans never saw coming, Dark Knights of Steel has already proven to be a fantastic read for new and old DC fans alike as the creative team has perfectly captured the spirit of the DC Universe in a new and unique way.

Tended to by this world’s version of Jonathan and Martha Kent after he’s incapacitated by a shard of Kryptonite (yep, Batman has superpowers in this one), Bruce Wayne is introduced to a group of “children” who are alternate versions of the Teen Titan team. Faithful to their original designs with an added Dark Knights of Steel flair, Cyborg gets the costume that raises the most eyebrows as it’s a low-tech look that he truly deserves in this fantasy world.

Cyborg's Dark Knights of Steel redesign

A redesign that keeps in line with the idea of Cyborg being a half-man, half-machine hero, the major difference in this alternate costume is that instead of high-tech computer wizardry making up half his body, Cyborg wears heavy medieval armor instead. Also wearing a sort of metal eye patch with a red lens in it (the same kind of lenses adorn his armor), Cyborg looks as durable as always while simultaneously packing a punch that could defeat any foe in one hit.

Unable to accurately become a true cyborg in a world where the electricity needed to run his machine parts only exists in the form of a superpower that Black Lightning and his royal family only seem to possess, Cyborg getting armored up is the next best option for a Teen Titan mainstay who doesn’t change his look very often. Shown towards the end of the issue to also have the ability to shoot a sort of red energy/magic blast from his hand, and this version of Cyborg not only gives him an amazing new costume but finds even more ways to keep in line with who he is in main DC continuity.

Cyborg’s new look may not reflect his namesake as much in this low-tech medieval fantasy world, but that doesn’t mean this redesign isn’t the perfect way to bring him into this wildly epic event. Cyborg and the Teen Titans have much to offer the heroes of Dark Knights of Steel, with the only question now being which member will show up next with a new and improved costume design!
