While Cyberpunk 2077 had quite a few problems at launch, a different game called Vigilancer 2099 could improve on a feature that shows no signs of being changed. Cyberpunk 2077 has significantly improved from its disastrous launch, and is now looking towards its Phantom Liberty DLC expansion in 2023, but there are still some flaws that the game has never managed to address. And while Cyberpunk itself may never see some of its fans' most requested features added, other games are potentially looking to carve out their own niche. An upcoming game called Vigilancer 2099 has recently put out a new preview of its gameplay, courtesy of lead developer @NasNakarus on Twitter. However, unlike Cyberpunk 2077's third-person view, which requires a mod and isn't present in the base game, Vigilancer 2099 is fully third-person, which is highlighted in a two-minute preview showing off a high-stakes chase through an impressively realized cyberpunk environment. The game is being developed by Envoidant Studios, and, according to its lead developer, is currently looking for a publisher, with additional plans for a potential Kickstarter campaign.Related: Cyberpunk 2077's Netrunners Deserve Better

Vigilancer 2099 Could Deliver Where Cyberpunk 2077 Failed

While many of Cyberpunk 2077's prerelease promises didn't pan out, perhaps the most disappointing was the game's lack of third-person perspective, as evidenced by the popularity of the aforementioned third-person view mod. With Cyberpunk's myriad customization options, many of which are only viewable in menus, the title's first-person-only gameplay can sometimes feel lacking, especially with many other games in its genre allowing for third-person options. Vigilancer, with its third-person view, could make up for what Cyberpunk is missing. A different creator's take on the genre could even produce a game that's more "punk" than Cyberpunk 2077 really is.

While Vigilancer 2099's preview could be exciting for Cyberpunk 2077 fans, the game's release is likely a long time coming. No date is available on the game's Steam page, and the lack of a publisher and planned Kickstarter campaign point to a game that is still very early in development. Conversely, this could add to the excitement of Vigilancer, as any rough edges present in the game's preview will have plenty of time to be polished by the time of Vigilancer's launch - which, hopefully, will be smoother than Cyberpunk 2077's.

Since its tumultuous launch, the developers behind Cyberpunk 2077 have managed to patch the game into a much improved state, delivering something much closer to the ambitious promises CD Projekt RED made before it released. Cyberpunk 2077's upcoming Game of the Year Edition can be seen as evidence that the developer has finally created a product it's proud of, even if the game still has some flaws. Vigilancer 2099 perhaps doesn't promise quite as much as Cyberpunk 2077 did, but its potential is still worth keeping an eye on. Cyberpunk 2077 may have proven to be something of a success story, but there's more than enough room for other cyberpunk titles like Vigilancer 2099.
