The new Cyberpunk 2077 update, which CD Projekt Red rolled out earlier this week to help improve stability, has also introduced a new game-breaking glitch that will halt player progress if they're not already aware of a fan-found workaround. Cyberpunk 2077 is the open-world, sci-fi action-RPG from CDPR that is currently in the midst of one of the most troubled launches in modern gaming history.
While many of the issues fans have with Cyberpunk 2077 are glitch-related, there are a few that aren't that are even more troubling. Reports of CD Projekt Red crunch began circulating after the game's launch, and an apology from CDPR co-founder Marcin Iwinski glossed over some of the game's issues as though they weren't predictable prior to launch - including the way the studio masked the game's state by providing PC codes to reviewers first. The amount of negativity surrounding the game from the outside would be enough of a problem, but Cyberpunk 2077 glitches are still all too common for those playing through them to try and find the genuinely compelling game that's hiding underneath.
To the studio's credit, CD Projekt Red is following through on its promise to prioritize and quickly release stability updates for Cyberpunk 2077, with the first of these major patches arriving earlier this week. Unfortunately, the new update has already brought with it a new game-breaking Cyberpunk 2077 bug according to a report from Kotaku, and one that's pretty familiar to players already. In previous builds, a bug in the mission "Down on the Street" would see Goro Takemura fail to call the player, halting their progress on the mission. That's now been fixed, but apparently when Takemura now calls, he simply fails to say anything and the call never completes, once again halting mission progress.
The report also highlights a fix for the Takemura glitch, as one user on Reddit named symtryx found a somewhat convoluted workaround to the issue. The fact the issue is present at all, however, is a more troubling sign. The fact a game-breaking Cyberpunk 2077 bug has been found once more - and one so close to one that was already present prior to the update - suggests that rushed game development isn't a thing of the past for the title yet.
Perhaps there's no winning for CD Projekt Red at this point - sand-bagging the Cyberpunk 2077 stability updates for too long would see the studio likely criticized for taking its time on some vital fixes. However, rolling out stability updates that introduce game-breaking Cyberpunk 2077 glitches is exactly the kind of thing that's already earned the game a less-than-stellar reputation, and being criticized for being too thorough and slow on stability fixes may be preferable to fans continuing to discover game-breaking issues each time those fixes arrive.
