Fans excited for Cyberpunk 2077 will be able to continue their adventures outside of the video game with the coinciding release of the tabletop role-playing game Cyberpunk RED. The TTRPG will be set between the original Cyberpunk tabletop game and the upcoming video game.

TTRPGs have become more popular in recent years, though they have been around for a long time. While a lot of people may know the most popular game, Dungeons & Dragons, many are not familiar with the multitude of other options out there ranging from Star Wars to one based on the television show Dallas, not to mention the countless original games out there. The Cyberpunk TTRPG has been around since the '80s, but the most update will be heavily tied into CD Projekt Red's upcoming video game.

An in-depth description from designer R. Talsorian Games gives some insight into what players can expect to find in the Cyberpunk RED game. Coming in at a total of 456 pages, the book covers everything players will need to know in order to start a game. Along with classes and game mechanics, players can expect a detailed account of the Cyberpunk world's history, over 100 pieces of art, and a three-page character sheet at the back of the book. The suggested retail price as of now will be $60 for the physical version and $30 for the digital version in the United States. Cyberpunk creator Mike Pondsmith and his son Cody are among the game's designers.

Cyberpunk RED will be coinciding with the release of Cyberpunk 2077, with both the digital copy of the TTRPG and the video game coming out on the same day. The digital version of Cyberpunk RED, which is coming out five days before the physical version, is likely meant to heighten anticipation for the video game. This does not leave a lot of time for fans to get invested into the TTRPG prior to the video game's release, but it will still give some insight into the lore of Cyberpunk 2077.

For veterans of TTRPGs, especially Cyberpunk fans, this looks like it will be a refreshing take on the genre while creating a larger landscape thanks to its heavy tie in with Cyberpunk 2077.  CD Projekt Red's success with The Witcher franchise has gotten fans excited for their latest title not because it's a similar game, but because of the quality the studio is known for producing. This is worth noting because many Witcher fans play Dungeons & Dragons and those are just similar in genre. They do not overlap the same way Cyberpunk 2077 and Cyberpunk RED will. It will be interesting to see how many fans of the TTRPG will play the video game and vice-versa.
