As the game’s launch date draws nearer, Cyberpunk 2077 has revealed it borrows one of Titanfall's best weapon ideas. CD Projekt Red promised to make weapons a focus in their next Night City Wire episode, and they delivered on that promise.

Along with gameplay and story details, artwork surrounding Cyberpunk 2077’s various city districts has also been gradually revealed by the developer. The game harbors a total of 15 districts, all explorable and unique. Despite the game having yet to be released, the hype train is full steam ahead, generating enough excitement that fans are already creating intricate cosplays based on the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.

True to its word, CD Projekt Red has revealed via YouTube various Cyberpunk 2077 weapon types and more, innately revealing that the game borrows one of Titanfall’s best weapon concepts, the auto-targeting Smart Pistol. Labeled Smart Weapons, these tools of destruction contain unique uses and features, such as a Smart Sniper Rifle locking onto a target’s body part and landing the shot regardless of where the barrel is pointed (within reason, presumably). There's also a submachine gun that similarly tracks enemies with rapid-fire bullets, and a shotgun with a wider spread of shots that also follow foes.

The Cyberpunk 2077 developer also unveiled several other weapon types: Cyberware, Melee Weapons, Power Weapons, Tech Weapons, and Throwables, as well as mods and attachments for each category. Most of these are self-explanatory; Cyberware, however, functions as cybernetic attachments that can launch projectiles out of characters’ limbs. Players can find weapons everywhere throughout the game world, including vendors, loot caches, and picking them up from enemies. Loot quality ranges from common to legendary, the latter of which possesses unique abilities and require gamers to “make some tough choices to find some legendary weapons,” such as deciding whether to kill or spare someone who owns the legendary weapon.

Cyberpunk 2077’s gameplay and weapon systems harken back to Deus Ex: Invisible War on the original Xbox. While Invisible War was a bug fest, it contained many of the core mechanical elements found in Cyberpunk 2077, from tech weapons to player choices that impact the way the story unfolds. Even the overall atmosphere is similar between both games, based on Cyberpunk’s various gameplay and cinematic trailers.

CD Projekt Red’s weapon categories aren’t the most original, but they do appear to have their own twists and artistic license. The gameplay showcased during the weapons showcase shines a positive light on Cyberpunk 2077, even if the frame rate was a bit subpar in the video. Smart Weapons, specifically, should add some tactical finesse to the game, while power weapons offer a more full-frontal assault (juggernaut) process. If the game’s framerate is superior to what was shown in the Night City Wire, then utilizing the different weapons and scouring the map for better loot should offer hours of entertainment, despite whatever bugs will exist at launch.
