In response to rumors about a "soft relaunch" for Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red's Global PR Director, Radek Grabowski, implied the claims are inaccurate. The supposed Cyberpunk 2077 relaunch leak originally made the rounds over the weekend thanks to a viral Reddit post, whose information stemmed from uncorroborated details shared on 4chan.

According to the leaks, Cyberpunk 2077's next-gen update, Version 1.5, will act as a soft relaunch referred to as Cyberpunk 2077: Samurai Edition. The update will allegedly introduce fresh features such as barbershops and a transmog system, as well as implement improved enemy AI and better-balanced loot. If the 4chan-derived rumor proves accurate, the Samurai Edition may also bundle in free DLC boasting new weapons, extra gigs, New Game Plus, and apartment customization options. CD Projekt Red, apparently, plans on unveiling the above and more in a live broadcast this coming February. Yet, one developer's response calls into question the veracity of the rumors.

CDPR Global PR Director Radek Grabowski weighed in on the leaks in a Twitter response to Forbes journalist Paul Tassi (via GamingBolt). While Grabowski wouldn't offer much in the way of specifics, he told Tassi, "This thing does not add up." The Forbes writer reached out for clarification but has yet to receive a response; as a result, it's difficult to discern which parts of the rumor may or may not prove accurate in the long run. Grabowski's admittedly vague thoughts on the matter read as follows:

To a degree, Grabowski's brief tweet raises more questions than it answers. Are the content-related bits of the leak inaccurate, or is it only the "soft relaunch" portion that contradicts CDPR's future plans for Cyberpunk 2077? Since the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S upgrades remain on track for a Q1 2022 rollout, the wait for clarity may not last too much longer.

Cyberpunk 2077 launched digitally and at retail in December 2020, approximately eight years after its initial announcement. Despite a disastrous release, especially on last-gen consoles, the sci-fi role-playing title managed to move a staggering 13 million units within two weeks of availability. Several hot fixes and larger patches have gone live to rectify the myriad issues that once plagued the experience, and it seems many players couldn't be happier about where the product currently stands. This much appears evident in the recent influx of positive Steam reviews for the CDPR-developed game.
