Cyberpunk 2077 has had a rocky start so far, with a launch dominated by tons of bugs, glitches, and crashes on every platform, including high-end PCs. Fans are understandably outraged that the game which had been in development for 7 years is barely playable. Disapproval among players has reached the point where Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red is encouraging upset players to get a refund. While Microsoft has been giving refunds and warning buyers about Cyberpunk 2077’s poor performance, Sony was hesitant about giving refunds until recently. In a shocking move, Sony completely removed Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store, indicating that the game won’t come back until it’s actually playable.

It makes sense Sony made the decision to remove Cyberpunk 2077 from PSN, as there is a process that games typically have to go through in order to get approved to be put on the PlayStation Store. Microsoft also has an approval process. This process may be more lenient towards AAA games than indie games, so it could be possible that Sony and Microsoft approved Cyberpunk 2077 without going through a full vetting process due to its hype and status. Microsoft hasn’t removed Cyberpunk 2077 from its store and CDPR hasn’t talked to Microsoft about removing the game, so it seems refunds and warnings are enough for now.

Two patches for Cyberpunk 2077 have already been released, with a third massive patch said to come today, December 21st. These patches are supposedly a part of CDPR’s roadmap towards fixing the game. On the Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter page, CDPR address gamers by apologizing and providing a timeline for a series of patches, stating, “We’ll release two large patches starting with Patch # 1 in January. This will be followed by Patch #2 in February.” While it’s not January yet, patches 1.04 and 1.05 have fixed some issues the game has, but there’s still a lot that needs to be done for Cyberpunk 2077 to work properly.

When Will Cyberpunk 2077 Return to the PS Store

There is no official date as to when Sony will bring Cyberpunk 2077 back to the PlayStation Store, but the game could make a return in January or February should the planned patches make a significant gameplay difference. Players who want Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 can still get a physical copy, though. Retail stores have not taken hard copies off the shelves despite Sony removing the game from the PlayStation Store. Players can also still get Cyberpunk 2077 on PC and Xbox One.

Sony’s removal of Cyberpunk 2077 may’ve bee an unpopular move in the eyes of one Cyberpunk 2077 studio head, but it seemed like the right thing to do opposed to refusing customer refunds. Despite CDPR encouraging fans to get refunds, Sony initially made it very difficult for players to get refunds on digital copies of Cyberpunk 2077 before making the decision to remove the game from the store.

CD Projekt’s reputation took quite a hit with the release of Cyberpunk 2077. Despite the game making more money than it cost to make it, that profit was nullified by the $1 billion lost in stocks. CDPR may be promising a fixed game by February, but it will take awhile for the company to regain the trust of fans. With how bad the initial release went, all those delays make sense now. Cyberpunk 2077 will return to the PlayStation Store in the future, or as early marketing used to say, when it’s ready.
