Cyberpunk 2077’s one and only expansion DLC Phantom Liberty is on the way, leaving many to wonder if it will come with a price tag. CD Projekt Red’s previous updates for the action RPG have all been free so far, including the Edgerunners DLC that released alongside the Netflix anime. Phantom Liberty is a much bigger package of content, however, and will even include Idris Elba in a starring role.

CDPR’s DLCs for previous games have been priced and large in scope. The Witcher 3’s Hearts of Stone DLC and its follow-up, Blood and Wine, introduced entire new regions and took 18 hours and 40 hours to complete, respectively. Phantom Liberty will similarly open up the new region Dogtown, Pacifica, and features the return of Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand. It thus appears that CDPR is repeating its Witcher 3 DLC strategy in Cyberpunk 2077.

CDPR confirmed that Phantom Liberty will not be a free DLC like the other updates for Cyberpunk 2077. In a statement shared with GamesRadar+, CDPR's global PR director Radek Grabowski said, "as for the expansion's pricing - we have not revealed exact details yet, but it will be a paid one." When Phantom Liberty comes out later in 2023, players should thus expect a price tag attached to the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion.

The price of Cyberpunk 2077's expansion DLC has yet to be revealed. Even so, it's possible to speculate how much CDPR will charge players by looking at its previous DLC releases. Witcher 3's Hearts of Stone DLC cost $10.00, whereas Blood and Wine - being over three times the size of the former DLC - was priced at $20.00. Though the size of Phantom Liberty is unclear, it's possible the expansion could be between $10.00 and $20.00 - although it is also worth noting that games have increased in price since Witcher 3 released. The Phantom Liberty expansion will probably be on the more expensive side of this range, as it is planned to be the only expansion DLC for Cyberpunk 2077.

Grabowski's additional comments to GamesRadar+ further suggest that Phantom Liberty will have a similar price to Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. Grabowski said, "our expansions are traditionally cheaper than full-price games." Optimistically, this quote invites comparisons to past CDPR expansions, which have historically been low-priced despite their size. At the very least, Grabowski's comment means that Phantom Liberty has very little chance of being $60.00, so Cyberpunk 2077 fans will not have to worry about spending a hefty amount on the DLC.
