It's been almost two years since Cyberpunk 2077 launched, and the game has changed significantly since then. Even more improvements could be on the way if the game were to receive a Patch 1.7. While the versions of Cyberpunk 2077 on previous-generation consoles will only be receiving maintenance updates from here on, the current-gen and PC versions have plenty of content to look forward to. Although not officially confirmed, Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.7 could make the game even better - depending on the size of the update.

Given the controversial state of Cyberpunk 2077 at launch, it has gone to great lengths since then to continually improve players' experiences in Night City, fixing bugs, improving quality of life, and generally adding content. This isn't unusual for a single-player game, but Cyberpunk 2077's negative starting position makes the point it has reached all the more impressive. Cyberpunk 2077's newest DLC introduced Cyberpunk: Edgerunners content alongside its usual slate of improvements, which has contributed to the game's recent resurgence. As it looks to capitalize on this wave of new players, next year Cyberpunk 2077 is expected to release its next update, which would be Patch 1.7, which may introduce features that fans have been anticipating since launch.

In a recent interview on YouTube, Game Director Gabe Amatangelo gave fans a glimpse into what Cyberpunk 2077's future could hold. When discussing what Cyberpunk 2077 is working to bring to the game next, Amantangelo mentioned a few major changes by name. Whether these will be introduced in Patch 1.7 remains to be seen, but as the patch has no official release date yet, it's likely that the patch will be a big one.

Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.7 Could Improve Vehicle Combat

Cyberpunk 2077 Vehicle Combat Mod

Arguably the biggest addition that Patch 1.7 could bring would be an overhaul of Cyberpunk 2077's vehicle combat. Leading up to Cyberpunk 2077's release, one of the main draws in its promotional material was the intense vehicle-to-vehicle combat, which barely ended up in the final product. If Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.7 actually implements the self-driving vehicles and intense chases that the game's trailers promised, it will have finally addressed one of its players' oldest complaints and it seems as though Amantangelo and the team are working on it.

Cyberpunk 2077's Next Patch May Improve Its Police System

Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer

Another potential headline of Cyberpunk 2077's next patch is a new and improved police system. Given the setting and subject of Cyberpunk 2077, having law enforcement that reacts to the player in interesting and realistic ways should've been one of the game's hallmarks, but its implementation was rather lackluster. While the current system has seen improvements over the years, it's hard to forget the teleporting police of Cyberpunk 2077's past. This would be another monumental improvement to the state of Cyberpunk 2077, and another issue that fans have long been hoping would be fixed. In combination with improved vehicle combat, Cyberpunk 2077 players could finally live out their futuristic Grand Theft Auto fantasies to the fullest extent.

Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.7 May Include New Actions For The Perk Tree

Besides these landmark system overhauls, Amatangelo also mentioned a few more subtle, but still intriguing, features being worked on at CD Projekt Red. These changes mostly revolve around the player's progression and experience, with the first being new actions added to the game's perk tree. In a similar vein, players that prefer going toe-to-toe with their enemies will be excited to hear that a new gameplay loop for melee combat is being worked on. Finally, cyberware sounds like it will be revamped with a different feel. With these updates on the horizon, Cyberpunk 2077's recent comeback may be just the beginning of the game's renaissance.

Many of the details surrounding Cyberpunk 2077's next patch remain vague, but with the game's foundation growing increasingly solid, there's more room than ever for CD Projekt Red to deliver on big promises. With all the buzz currently surrounding the franchise, it's somewhat surprising to imagine that the Phantom Liberty expansion will be the only one coming to Cyberpunk 2077. It has taken years to rebuild the game's reputation and begin to enter the same conversation as the likes of No Man's Sky, so not riding that wave of positivity to its natural conclusion would be anticlimactic at this point. That being said, regardless of how long Cyberpunk 2077 lives on, its next updates are sure to continue giving players what they've long been asking for.
