Fans have noticed yet another bizarre detail in Cyberpunk 2077, this one affecting how NPC traffic looks from a distance. While CD Projekt Red’s newest RPG had built up a steady stream of hype for its gritty futuristic setting and big-name celebrity endorsements, once the game finally hit store shelves the discussion shifted to just how many strange bugs and glitches made it into a finished product that took so many years (and countless delays) to develop.

Many of the bugs plaguing Cyberpunk 2077 are comical and cosmetic, such as player character V's pants disappearing while driving or random NPC enemies suddenly deciding to help during a quest. Others are far creepier, with characters' faces disappearing like an infamous bug in 2014's Assassin's Creed Unity. Some glitches even cause Cyberpunk 2077 to crash at random, making the game unplayable for fans who waited nearly a decade to experience CDPR’s take on the popular Cyberpunk 2077 tabletop franchise after the developer wowed the gaming industry with the highly successful The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

On a much lighter note, Reddit user LordSephiran noted something strange while observing NPC cars driving by in Cyberpunk 2077 last week. In a post to the Cyberpunk 2077 subreddit, they pointed out that at a distance, these vehicles are rendered as low-detail sprites that seemingly float along the road in striking contrast to how painstakingly detailed they usually appear close up.

As funny as some of these Cyberpunk 2077 bugs and glitches are to watch, the situation involving them has led to a considerable backlash against CD Projekt Red regarding how buggy the game has turned out to be, especially on last-gen consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. In the weeks following the game’s release, word has broken out that CDPR deliberately withheld information about the sorry shape Cyberpunk 2077 was still in to avoid further delays, and eventually PlayStation Network pulled the game from its online listings in response to negative fan feedback. To CDPR’s credit, it has announced efforts to fix Cyberpunk 2077 through update patches in the coming months, even as players remain weary after such a disappointing launch.

The quite humorous but still unnerving low-poly vehicle models that can be seen in Cyberpunk 2077 are likely due to the game needing to render less detail at a distance for performance reasons. However, it can still be a weird visual for players used to seeing them at such high detail while driving them. Still, this is a relatively minor problem in the long and troubling list of Cyberpunk 2077’s post-launch glitches, which have turned one of 2020’s most highly anticipated titles into a cautionary tale of trying to do too much, too soon.
