Some eagle-eyed Cyberpunk 2077 players have uncovered a possible shout-out to the beloved Discovery Channel show Mythbusters. The run-down world of Night City is home to many such Easter Eggs, either as a nod to other popular video games or a gentle message for fans to be patient in the wake of Cyberpunk 2077’s notoriously troubled launch last year.

Players can acquire a minifigure of Mortal Kombat's resident undead ninja Scorpion at the end of a certain sidequest to spruce up V’s apartment, or spot Siri from The Witcher 3 (which was also developed by Cyberpunk 2077’s CD Projekt Red) in a drawer while playing through the Corpo life path. They can even notice real-life figures like Elon Musk or legendary Dead Stranding creator Hideo Kojima enjoying the nightlife in Night City, but it seems that one other guest cameo isn't doing as well in the gritty world of Cyberpunk 2077.

As reported by Game Rant yesterday, Cyberpunk 2077 players have noticed an irradiated corpse lying in a garbage dump on the outskirts of Rancho Coronado, one that bears a passing resemblance to Mythbusters alumnus Adam Savage. A nearby story shard describes the deceased as Steven Hurt, the host of a TV show that tests old myths and urban legends - just like Mythbusters. Indeed, Hurt’s body lying near a refrigerator and the presence of a certain iconic fedora hat seem to indicate that he was testing the infamous fridge-nuking scene from Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull.

Cyberpunk 2077 Mythbusters Adam Savage

While the Mythbusters crew never got around to testing out the controversial fridge nuke (which had Indy survive an atomic blast by hiding in, what else, a refrigerator) on their show, they did re-enact several movie scenes and popular urban legends on The Discovery Channel for 14 seasons before it ended its successful run in 2016. The show would be revived the following year as the short-lived reality series Mythbusters: The Search, albeit without Savage’s involvement. Meanwhile, Adam Savage continues to recreate iconic scenes and weapons on his YouTube channel, where he most recently built a spot-on replica of Kratos’s mighty Leviathan Axe from God Of War (2018).

It looks like Steven Hurt decided to carry on where his real-world counterpart couldn't, though he probably should have had Buster the Test Dummy perform his fridge-nuking experiment, judging from his fate as just another unfortunate corpse littering the outskirts of Night City. Mythbusters' Adam Savage is thankfully alive and well, likely thinking up new myths from Cyberpunk 2077 to test out over the internet for the entertainment of gamers and urban legend enthusiasts alike.
