A new job posting at CD Projekt Red suggests that the developer could be looking to improve model damage in Cyberpunk 2077, along with some other aspects of the long-troubled RPG title. CDPR promised fans a lot of interesting features with Cyberpunk 2077, such as the ability to alter playable character V’s hairstyle or a rapid transit monorail system for fast travel within the large open world of Night City, but a great many of these were either bare-bones or completely nonexistent when Cyberpunk 2077 was released last winter.

Not helping in this disappointment were the many game-breaking bugs and glitches Cyberpunk 2077 was launched with in its original form, requiring a massive Day One patch to simply get the game functional and leading Sony to temporarily pull Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store. Although CDPR has set out to fix many of these issues through updates in the year since Cyberpunk 2077 was first released, many of the robust features the developer promised during the game’s massive pre-release promotional campaign have been left unaccounted for. However, there are signs that this might be changing soon.

The Gamer reports that CD Projekt Red has just posted a job offer for a Destruction Technical Artist on its official website. The job description for this position requires someone who can “optimize destruction assets to the extent nobody notices they are optimized because they look and behave great," with additional details suggesting that the applicant needs a "sense of physical substances” and “some real work experience with materials.” These traits will help in adding more realistic damage to in-game models in Cyberpunk 2077 - something that many players feel is lacking in the game's current state.

There are plenty of other positions available as part of CD Projekt Red’s new job posting, such as a Senior Technical Animator that will assist animators and designers with “prototyping the visual part of new gameplay mechanics” and AI and Physics Programmers who will be responsible “for designing, implementing, optimizing, and maintaining low to mid-level simulation systems” like vehicle physics and ragdoll simulation. These listings also mention “an exciting opportunity to develop cutting-edge simulation systems and new gameplay features,” and several positions like Gameplay Designer, Quest Designer, Level Designer, and Cinematic Designer are tasked with “establishing perfect continuity of the story with gameplay” – which suggests that CDPR could be adding additional DLC story content to Cyberpunk 2077 at some point. Such content was promised in the run up to Cyberpunk 2077’s now-infamous launch, but CDPR ultimately decided to delay any planned DLC to instead focus on stabilizing the main game.

There is still no official word on what exact changes these new CD Projekt Red staff members could implement, but this surge of new job openings could have something to do with the often-delayed current-gen upgrades of Cyberpunk 2077 – which are said to be set to release at some point during the first few months of 2022. In any case, it looks like Cyberpunk 2077 could be getting a visual upgrade to its in-game damage system, something that will help bring the game closer to the high goals CD Projekt Red originally set during its long and troubled development cycle.
