Thanks to a new mod, Cyberpunk 2077's futuristic vehicle combat and police chases have improved. Developer CD Projekt Red's action-adventure RPG was virtually unplayable when it was first released in 2020. In fact, Cyberpunk 2077's Patch 1.2 fixed over 500 errors, the high number serving as a very visceral demonstration of just how much was wrong with the game in its original release. Now a new mod adds to the improved game's experience by adding vehicle combat and making enemy NPCs more challenging in vehicle chases.

One of the common complaints about the game when it first came out was its NPC police force. Players have commented that interactions with the Night City Police Department feel incomplete, at odds with the rest of the video game. The NPC cops would seemingly materialize in the general area where a player commits a crime and quickly give up chasing the player. As more details of CD Projekt Red's development of the game came out, it was found that Cyberpunk 2077's police system was only added in the final stages of development. The last-minute addition of the Grand Theft Auto-esque wanted system explains why encounters with police feel unfinished at best.

As reported by PC Gamer, the new Vehicle Combat mod created by user Scissors at Nexus Mods now lets Cyberpunk 2077 players use weapons while driving and improves the wanted system of the game. Scissors mentions that the game's code has some functionality that enables the player to use weapons while driving vehicles, but it seems like this aspect of the game was disabled. However, thanks to a couple of workarounds, Scissors was able to essentially restore that aspect of the game and allow players to aim and fire weapons while driving. The Vehicle Combat mod also fixes the relatively uncommitted chase of the player by Cyberpunk 2077's police force and other enemy NPCs. Various gangs and factions of Night City, police scanner missions, and gigs can now call in backup and pursue the player if the wanted level is high enough.

Cyberpunk 2077 Vehicle Combat Mod

Despite the bugs that originally plagued Cyberpunk 2077 when it first came out, many dedicated fans still played it. Though CD Projekt Red has released several official patches for the game to fix some of the bugs, these patches focused on refining stability and performance across all platforms. Two years after its initial launch, the RPG is in a better place, but many fans recognize that several features of the game still need attention. The modding community took it upon themselves to help enhance the overall gameplay experience by creating mods that helped improve several aspects of the game. Like the Vehicle Combat mod, these Cyberpunk 2077 mods give players a more enjoyable experience playing the sci-fi title.

As time goes on, CD Projekt Red will no doubt work towards implementing other anticipated features for Cyberpunk 2077. Until then, it seems that the fanbase will continue to rely on the modding community to churn out other improvements.
