A new Cyberpunk 2077 mod allows players to suffer the effects of Cyberpsychosis as shown in the recent Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime. In the world of Cyberpunk 2077, people can modify their bodies with powerful cybernetic augmentations. These implants allow the user to gain special weapons and superhuman abilities like enhanced speed or boosted strength. However, this power comes at a cost: cyberpunks who rig their bodies with too much cyberware begin to suffer from a condition known as cyberpsychosis, and the effects can be deadly to themselves and everyone around them.

Cyberpsychosis dates back to the original Cyberpunk tabletop RPG, where it was tied to a player’s humanity stat. The more augmentations a character installs, the more their humanity stat drops, eventually leading to cyberpsychosis. People affected with cyberpsychosis start to experience incredibly vivid hallucinations, and in severe cases can even lose their sense of identity and go on uncontrollable rampages. One of Cyberpunk 2077’s side quests tasks V with hunting down several of these “cyberpsychos” in Night City, but players themselves never suffer any ill effects no matter how many augmentations they install.

A Nexus Mods user by the handle of DJ_Kovrik recently uploaded a new Cyberpunk 2077 mod titled Wannabe Edgerunner - A Simple Cyberpsychosis Mod, which introduces cyberpsychosis to the game. According to IGN, this is achieved by adding a humanity stat that decreases as players install more cyberware, kill people, and use special abilities like the Cyberpunk 2077 Sandevistan upgrade’s super speed. As this humanity stat lowers, the player begins to experience hallucinations in the form of visual glitches and other minor side effects. These hallucinations become more intense as the player’s cyberpsychosis grows, until it drops to zero and V becomes a full-blown “cyberpsycho."

A New Cyberpunk 2077 Mod Gives Players Cyberpsychosis

While in the state of cyberpsychosis, V gains a few boosts to their movement speed, armor value, and health regeneration - but police will soon gather to eliminate them as they do with any cyberpsycho in Night City. Luckily, players can temporarily ease the effects of cyberpsychosis by injecting themselves with Neuroblockers, and sleep can ward off some of the glitches in the early stages. Finally, different augments have different effects on the humanity stat: more expensive and minor mods only have a minimal impact, while larger, cheaper Cyberpunk 2077 cyberware drains V’s humanity more.

Cyberpsychosis is featured prominently in Cyberpunk Edgerunners, which sees David Martinez succumb to its effects as he is driven to install larger and more powerful cyberware during his short career as an Edgerunner. Cyberpunk Edgerunners has been met with high praise since it was released on Netflix last month, to the point where Cyberpunk 2077 has seen a massive boost in players as a result. The Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.6 update added several Easter Egg references to Edgerunners, and some players have created Cyberpunk 2077 builds inspired by Lucy and David.

Cyberpsychosis is just another example of how dangerous the world of Cyberpunk 2077 is, as the augmentations Edgerunners install to help survive in the mean streets of Cyberpunk 2077's expansive setting of Night City can be just as deadly as rival gangs. Now players can experience this dangerous condition in Cyberpunk 2077 through a new mod that recreates what David went through towards the end of Cyberpunk Edgerunners.
