Developer CD Projekt Red has officially announced a Cyberpunk 2077 DLC expansion titled Phantom Liberty, and Keanu Reeves will return as Johnny Silverhand for the new story. The open-world sci-fi RPG was highly anticipated before its 2020 launch, but a plethora of bugs and performance issues led to widespread criticism after release. A series of Cyberpunk 2077 patches and glitch fixes have improved the experience over time, however, and CD Projekt Red is now ready to expand Night City with DLC.

While the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 was infamously turbulent, CD Projekt Red has worked to improve the experience over time and deliver the underworld sci-fi adventure that was originally promised to fans. The seedy streets of Night City have become significantly more active, cut content has been restored to the game and a mountain of glitches has been shrunk substantially with each patch. With Cyberpunk 2077 now in a fairly stable state, many fans have begun to speculate about potential DLC for the futuristic RPG. Popular rumors have pointed to a Cyberpunk 2077 DLC about Jackie Wells, a supporting character from the main story, but now CD Projekt Red has officially confirmed a much different DLC experience.

Revealed in a trailer posted to YouTube by Cyberpunk 2077, the upcoming Phantom Liberty DLC will see Keanu Reeves return for another romp as Johnny Silverhand. The expansion, set for release in 2023, will take players to a brand-new district of Night City for a cyberpunk spy-thriller experience with V and Silverhand. Coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Google Stadia, Phantom Liberty will presumably take place during Cyberpunk 2077's main story rather than after the events of the game. The exciting DLC will apparently see V pledge to serve as an agent of the New United States of America, though the anarchic Johnny Silverhand is naturally annoyed by the oath.

Cyberpunk 2077 Finally Gets A DLC Expansion

While CD Projekt Red has revealed little about Phantom Liberty, previous rumors surrounding a leaked Cyberpunk 2077 DLC may shine some light on the upcoming expansion. These leaks, based on a number of datamined voice lines, suggest that DLC will introduce a new personality construct named Songbird to serve as a rival to Keanu Reeves' Johnny Silverhand. These leaks also hint that the expansion will unlock a previously inaccessible portion of Night City's Pacifica district, and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is now confirmed to visit a new part of the city. However, Phantom Liberty's spy-thriller themes don't mesh with the apparently leaks and their focus on the otherworldly Arasaka Orbital Station.

Cyberpunk 2077 has been a work in progress since launch, but CD Projekt Red finally seems comfortable adding new content to the futuristic RPG. Phantom Thread looks to embrace Night City by delving into a new district and emphasizing grounded street-level espionage, and the return of Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand will no doubt draw players back. While few details have been confirmed, the first Cyberpunk 2077 expansion will finally arrive in 2023.
