Taking place in the same universe as the video game with the same name, Cyberpunk 2077: Blackout is an upcoming comic miniseries featuring more adventures in the setting of Night City. This story focuses on a braindance repairman who discovers a new way to experience the city, and may recontextualize the freedom of its citizens. The creative team also features a returning member from Cyberpunk 2077's developer CD Projekt Red's team, Bartosz Sztybor.

Despite a shaky start that made the property notorious for its frequent and oversized glitches, Cyberpunk 2077 has gathered a huge fanbase thanks to its stunning graphics, satisfying gameplay, and hugely compelling world. Featuring Keanu Reeves, Cyberpunk 2077 blends the genres of action and science-fiction in a role-playing game developed by CD Projekt Red. The player explores Night City through the eyes of V (voiced by either Cherami Leigh or Gavin Drea in English), a fully customizable mercenary whose choices are made by the player, which can change the character's personality.

The official Dark Horse Comics website shares details about Cyberpunk 2077: Blackout. Its ominous description paints a dark picture of Night City's current state and theorizes that not everyone wants a happy ending offered by technology. The story follows a braindance repairman who experiences only pain in Night City, until a blackout changes everything. Braindance is a Cyberpunk 2077 term for a memory that someone can view so extensively that they feel everything, including the person's emotions. The writer of Cyberpunk 2077: Blackout, Narrative Manager Sztybor, wrote the previous Cyberpunk 2077 miniseries subtitled You Have My Word as well as the free digital comic available exclusively to players who ordered Cyberpunk 2077 on GOG.com. Enjoy the covers and issue synopsis below:

It hurts. Night City hurts. The suffering runs deep and the deeper one falls, the longer the self-prescribed dreams play. Fortune, hope, love - all made possible by DMS technology. But not everyone desires a happy ending. A braindance repairman discovers the answer to pain... comes in a blackout.

The rest of the creative team includes artist and main cover artist Roberto Ricci. Cyberpunk 2077: Blackout is his first work with Dark Horse, but his art has previously graced the pages of Heavy Metal Magazine. The letterer for the miniseries is Frank Cvetkovic of Artful Dagger with colors by Fabiana Mascolo of Yasmeen and Firefly: Brand New 'Verse. There will also be a variant cover by Max Fiumara who has worked on several Dark Horse series including B.P.R.D. and The World of Black Hammer.

It seems that both the suffering and DMS-enabled 'happiness' of Night City will be addressed in Cyberpunk 2077: Blackout, as a city predicated on the idea of futuristic tech being introduced into every facet of life loses power, and one individual finds new purpose in the darkness that follows.

As this is the third comic book series taking place in the world of Cyberpunk 2077, fans can already purchase the two previous miniseries published by Dark Horse Comics. These include Cyberpunk 2077: Trauma Team and Cyberpunk 2077: You Have My Word. The first issue of the four-issue Cyberpunk 2077: Blackout miniseries will be released on June 1, 2022.
