The Cyberpunk 2077 player apartment will be an important element in the game, according to CD Projekt Red - but it won't be customizable, due to a number of different factors cited during a recent interview. Cyberpunk 2077 is a game that will follow in the footsteps of the studio's last effort, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, in the sense that it will feature a gigantic game world that responds to many of the player's most important decisions throughout the narrative and the side quests that support it.

News about Cyberpunk 2077 is beginning to hit faster and harder as the game approaches its April 2020 release date. CD Projekt Red will be showing off a new gameplay demo at PAX West in a few weeks that has previously only been shown behind closed doors, and more details about the title's mechanics, narrative, and game world have begun emerging during interviews and social media exchanges. Recently, players discovered that the game wouldn't let players kill anyone they want in Cyberpunk 2077, protecting important NPCs and children from harm. Earlier, fan feedback caused CD Projekt Red to begin designing a Cyberpunk 2077 character customization system that allowed for transgender options, illustrating the developer's desire to listen to consumers prior to the game's launch.

Now, a new info dump from a lengthy article feature in PSX Extreme and translated by Reddit user Arise92 has revealed that the Cyberpunk 2077 player apartment will serve a crucial role during the game's story. Apparently, the apartment will have a few gameplay features tucked away inside it, such as the ability to check the internet and emails and storing equipment the player can't carry with them. More importantly, however, is the fact that the apartment can't be customized, an interesting choice for a game that is otherwise very hesitant to place restrictions on players.

The reason fans can't customize their apartment is an interesting one - it's because decorating the apartment would go against the spirit of the game, which is dark and gritty. Although that's a CD Projekt Red answer, the explanation is probably a bit more complicated, especially because in the same article it's stated that the apartment is important to the storyline of the game and will have lots of meetings take place inside it. If there are a lot of cutscenes and important moments there, it would make sense not to let it be too customizable, since having a giant unicorn doll or an action figure of Geralt in a bathtub would likely hinder the scene's gravitas a little.

There's something to be said for the way CD Projekt Red thinks through each detail of the game its designing. That being said, it's also a little disappointing that the apartment won't be customizable. In a game where the player character is extremely fluid and can be represented in a myriad number of ways, not being able to reflect those differences in character in the player's living space is a little weird.
