The newest patch for Cyberpunk 2077 has come with changes to its perk system, which means that players will have to work on their existing characters a bit before they jump back into Night City. Thankfully, it doesn't look like it'll take too much preparation before they're ready to get back to the action. Some playstyles might need some rethinking, but it seems as though the changes should ultimately be for the better.

In Cyberpunk 2077, there are many perks that players can use to make V a better fighter. Some allow for an increase in carrying capacity, while others let V move faster and hit harder. Perks are an important part of how players engage with the world and its challenges in Cyberpunk 2077, especially given its focus on customization and letting players approach situations based on their preferences for fighting or hacking. Updating Cyberpunk 2077 to the latest version changes some of the perks and how they work, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

The most minor change in Cyberpunk's new perk tree system is that some of the perks have been renamed or moved to other areas. Another is that some of the perks that weren't renamed were redesigned instead, some of which may be favorites of certain players. The final change, and possibly the most impactful, is that all perk points have been completely reset, which means that players will have to spend all of their perk points in order to get back into the game. It gives players the opportunity to recreate their player, but might be a bit of a pain for those who were perfectly happy with their characters as they were.

Cyberpunk 2077 Updates Its Perk Tree With Patch 1.5 Changes

Some of the changes to Cyberpunk 2077's perk system are bigger than others, and some are merely cosmetic. Some of these details, like Cyberpunk 2077's easy-to-miss hidden quests, are easy to pass by without noticing, so players should read through the perks carefully. Some perks have been renamed, replaced by newer ones, or moved to other trees. For example, the Stealth tree is now called "Ninjutsu", and has been retooled, making additions and changes to get away from perks that players weren't actually using. Such things shouldn't impact gameplay too much, even if it might require a little hunting for players to find their favorites.

Some perks in Cyberpunk 2077 have been redesigned instead of replaced or moved. The list consists of the perks Bloodswell, Human Shield, Epimorphosis, Cold Blood, Coldest Blood, and Cutthroat, which means that players who have centered their character build around them might have to make a few tweaks. Bonuses have also been made dynamic for the perks 200% Efficiency, Field Technician, and Cutting Edge. The perks will now apply to weapons and clothing that were already made, and respeccing the perk will remove the bonus.

Perhaps the biggest way that the new perk system will change existing characters is that all perks have been reset, which means that Cyberpunk 2077 players will get a second chance to spend all of their perk points over again. There's no penalty or requirements in order to reassign the perk points, so players essentially get to completely redesign their character if they want to. If they liked it the way it was, however, and especially if it took a lot of work to get it that way, they may want to go through their perks and write them down before updating. Cyberpunk 2077 has a lot of improvements in its 1.5 update, but this one might be a bit frustrating - even if only temporarily - for existing players.
