Unlike the many CW shows that begin with a regular person embracing their identity as a superhero, Naomi starts off with a fresh take, centering the titular character's regular life, rather than her powers. The age of its main characters and independence from the Arrowverse makes this series feel more like Stargirl than the network's other DC properties. While Stargirl can't wait to throw her life away for the sake of her heroic persona, Naomi seems quite happy with her everyday life.

The show is still in its early days, but from the first episode, audiences can start to form attachments to the characters they like most—and rejection of those they don't. Between Naomi, her best friend, her two mentors/opponents, and three love interests, there's a lot going on.

Zumbado

Still image of Naomi's Zumbado

Zumbado (Cranston Johnson) is a car salesman who knows far more about Naomi and her abilities than she does. While this might lead him to play a role as mentor to her later on in the show, so far he is gruff and creepy. He follows her around and threatens her when she discovers a piece of the puzzle.

From the comics, we know that Zumbado is from the same place as Naomi and ends up becoming a primary antagonist for her. Whether that role stays the same in the show or not is unclear, but so far he is not very likable. More importantly, he doesn't seem to mind that people feel that way about him.

Nathan

Nathan looks at Naomi in the CW Series.

Nathan (Daniel Puig) is one of Naomi's three love interests, although he begins the show seemingly already off the list. He is introduced as her ex-boyfriend, though they are still on friendly terms. As the show goes on, audiences will likely see more about why they broke up, but the first episode does give some hints.

While Nathan has a talent for video editing, which might be viewed as nerdy in another series, he is clearly popular in this world, being a jock and a child of the military personnel stationed in Port Oswego. The first thing we learn about him is that he chose not to invite Anthony, one of Naomi's other potential partners, to his party because he is a townie and because of his connection with Naomi. This jealous nature and elitism can definitely sour audiences on the character.

Anthony

Anthony (Will Meyers) is lower on the likability scale simply because there is very little known about him so far. He is one of Naomi's close friends, a potential love interest, and largely unpopular. It remains to be seen if his unpopularity is due to his status as a townie, his bad blood with Nathan, or something to do with his personality.

Anthony gets points for jumping on board the mystery that Naomi is looking to solve. Overall, he just hasn't been developed enough yet for audiences to feel much of anything toward him.

Lourdes

Naomi and Lourdes sneak around with friends.

Lourdes (Camila Moreno) is the last of Naomi's love interests, and the only one Naomi has actively flirted with so far. In an interview with CBR, Moreno describes her as unafraid "of just being herself and just saying, 'This is me. You can take it, you can leave it, but I'm not going to change for anyone.'" Because Naomi actively flirted with her, it is likely that she will be the first love interest to end up with Naomi, although polyamory is not off the table.

Lourdes joined the rest of the gang in helping Naomi break into Zumbado's car lot, using her lock picking skills to get the door open. Because of her breaking and entering skills, as well as her presumed love of comic books, she may be the most helpful friend Naomi has when it comes to figuring out who and what she is.

Dee

Naomi First Look Dee Featured

Dee (Alexander Wraith) is another possible mentor for Naomi, though he is a lot more likable than Zumbado. Dee owns a tattoo shop and seems connected to every mystery the show has produced so far, being present at both the Superman incident and the mysterious event on Naomi's adoption day.

Although he is brusque and evasive, he does seem the most willing to provide Naomi with information if she manages to come up with the right questions. Dee hasn't appeared to age since 2004 and has metallic wings, which mark him as either an alien or metahuman that may be able to help Naomi understand her own powers. In the comics, Dee comes from the planet Thangar, the same as Hawkman and Hawkgirl, but it remains to be seen if that will hold true in the show.

Anabelle

Annabelle and Naomi walk through a building.

Anabelle (Mary-Charles Jones) is Naomi's best friend, and seemingly the only one of her friends who isn't in love with her. She is extremely loyal to Naomi. She always looks out for her by telling her about the Superman stunt and trying to help her after her collapse during the debate competition.

The one strike against Anabelle would be her cautiousness, as she continually tries to convince Naomi to stop investigating what happened with Superman and her own past. With that said, she does continue to help Naomi despite it going against her better judgment, coming with her to the car lot to help Naomi piece her past together.

Naomi

Last but certainly not least is Kaci Walfall's Naomi, who director Ava DuVernay describes as "a Black girl Ferris Bueller." While clearly having a nerdy side, Naomi seems to be the most popular girl in school. She's welcomed enthusiastically when she walked into a party and acquiring more than a few love interests just in episode one.

Naomi is clearly likable in her own universe, but even from the audience's perspective, she is an engaging character. Despite being a little too perfect, she feels like an outsider due to being adopted, a trait that led her to feel a kinship with Superman, who is a comic book character in her world. She does a little bit of everything, but her thriving social life gets disrupted by the mysteries revolving around her past, her powers, and her connection to Superman.
