The 6 Cutest Baby Moana Memes

Of the various elements that made people fall in love with Disney’s Moana, the scenes where the titular heroine was a baby were among the highest. Particularly for girls and moms, Baby Moana is definitely up there as being one of the cutest infants in the Disney canon of films.

She’s even become the inspiration for several memes that further highlight her cuteness and are funny to look at. Though the latter escalated a lot after she made a cameo in Pixar's Ralph Breaks the Internet. So here are the top ten cutest Baby Moana memes currently out there.

Maui/Baby Moana Face-Swap

It doesn’t take a genius to see why the above meme is so funny yet adorable to look at. Because while Moana herself was certainly the main focus of her own movie, the other character that got a lot of attention was Maui (voiced by Dwayne Johnson). A mischievous demigod with a talent for shapeshifting, thanks to a magical fish hook, he served as a comedic foil for Moana during her journey to return the Heart of Te Fiti and a mentor figure of sorts.

Unfortunately, Maui also became the center of racial controversy. According to The Guardian, a lot of Pacific Islanders complained about Maui’s depiction as playing into the obese Polynesian stereotype which was seen as offensive since Maui himself is a heroic figure in many Pacific Island cultures. In fact, some of his actual mythological deeds are highlighted in the song “You’re Welcome”. Still, not all Pacific Islanders were offended by Maui’s design and it’s clear that in the film he’s supposed to be big in the muscular sense as opposed to just being fat.

Little Sister as the Chicken from Moana

Though Maui certainly provided most of the comedy in Moana, another character that was humorous was Moana’s pet chicken Heihei. What he lacked in brains he made up for by being unintentionally helpful at times, especially when it came to holding onto the Heart of Te Fiti and keeping it out of the wrong hands.

With that said, this meme does raise a good point about why a little girl would dress up as Heihei when Moana seems like the more obvious choice. Nevertheless, adorableness can come in all shapes and sizes. Such is certainly the case for Moana’s pet pig Pua, who got left behind when Moana sailed away from her home island Motunui to look for Maui. While fans have speculated as to the reason why Pua didn’t come and Heihei did, it’s indicated from movies like Disney’s Pocahontas that having too many sidekicks can overcrowd a movie.

Baby Moana Tangled Nauraa

Apart from Moana’s infant self, another baby version of a Disney character that has been considered to be incredibly adorable is Rapunzel from Disney’s Tangled. Based on the Brothers Grimm fairytale known as “Rapunzel,” this movie tells the story of its titular princess who was gifted with magic hair after her mother drank a potion that contained a special flower with magical properties. Yet because an old woman named Gothel wanted the hair to make herself indefinitely younger, she kidnapped Rapunzel as a baby and raised her in an isolated tower.

Though looking at Moana and Rapunzel side by side in the above meme, it’s hard to determine which one is cuter. Hence, we have the third baby Nauraa to break the tension with the joke being that she’s not a Disney character. Yet she’s arguably just as cute as them, but real.

Jungkook Baby Moana

In recent years, South Korean Pop (or K-Pop for short) has become an increasingly popular music genre in the United States particularly among teenage girls. Though one of the most well-known bands in the K-Pop music world is BTS, which includes seven young men including Jungkook (as shown above). In fact, BTS managed to top charts both in Korea and in the United States with hit singles and albums. They even have their own reality TV show and films that document their concert tours that are international and based in their home country.

Because the members of BTS are considered to be physically attractive, it is both funny and cute seeing Jungkook with a front ponytail sticking out from beneath his backward baseball hat being paired alongside Baby Moana after the ocean gives her a ponytail-like hairdo. Though this shot didn’t serve much of a purpose in the movie except to be cute, it’s still a memorable scene.

Can’t Wait

Compared to the other memes on the list, this one is more straightforward in its message. It praises Moana herself for her cuteness both as a child and a teenager. Yet the ‘Can’t wait’ caption below seems to imply this meme was created prior to the official release of Moana back in 2016.

While the movie was financially successful and received well critically, it could not escape the shadow of Disney’s questionable representation of non-caucasian races. This was despite the fact that many Polynesians worked on the film behind the scenes, and it tried to stay as true to the culture as possible. In fact, there was a Maui tattoo skin costume that was pulled from shelves around Halloween during the same year the movie came out due to backlash from consumers according to TheWrap.

Now here is the crown jewel of cute Baby Moana memes that are out there. It’s fairly straightforward like the previous one, but it’s focused around one image instead of several. Then with the caption being an adorable misspelling of the word ‘Shallow’ with the informal version of ‘Dur,’ it’s a perfect combination of cuteness and humor.

While the image it shows may not be as iconic as the shot where Baby Moana reaches up to touch the ocean water, it’s still a memorable moment in of itself because it shows Moana taking the first steps toward her supposed destiny.
