Mario Golf: Super Rush brings the beloved Mario Golf series to the Nintendo Switch. Like other games in the Mario Golf series, there is nuance to each individual shot. The most effective way to get a ball on the green requires players to pay attention to several different factors. These factors seem overwhelming at first but staying aware of them can immensely benefit every golfer, no matter how wacky their outfit may be.

Environmental aspects such as wind speed, slope of the ground, elevation, terrain, and weather can affect players’ shots drastically. Player-determined factors also affect a player’s swing. Although the power bar and accuracy bar are straightforward, factors such as spin, shift, and curving the ball take some time to master. Curving the ball isn’t discussed as explicitly as some of the other features in the game. Here are some tips and tricks for curving the ball in Mario Golf: Super Rush.

How to Curve Shots in Mario Golf: Super Rush

Curving the ball is essential for maneuvering around obstacles on the course. Objects like trees and sand traps often stand in the way of the ball’s trajectory. By applying a draw (right-to-left curve) or fade (left-to-right curve) to the ball, players can traverse the hazards in each course with ease. Applying a curve to the ball in Mario Golf: Super Rush involves a couple of steps during the player’s downswing.

First, players must set up their shot normally. Next, fill up the power meter to the desired spot, whether that be maximum power or a lesser, more controlled power! Remember, one of the basic tips for Mario Golf: Super Rush is to keep the power level under the red triangles at the top of the meter! This prevents the ball from veering off course. Once the power is selected, the accuracy meter will be activated.

Using the left stick, determine the shot's curvature during the accuracy meter selection. Pushing the joystick left or right curves the ball in the indicated horizontal direction. Pushing the joystick up will make the ball go higher up in the air while pushing it down will cause the ball to curve downward. There are several sections on the accuracy meter in which players can control the shot's curvature. For example, pushing the stick right in the first section, then left in the second section will curve the ball right then left in the air. The direction of the curve is fluid as well. For instance, players can point the joystick up and to the right to have the ball go higher up and curve slightly toward the right.

"Spin" is the most important stat for curving, because a higher spin stat gives players more curvature sections on their accuracy meter. However, players with any level of "Spin" can curve their shots. Mastering characters’ downswings is a trial-and-error process, but with the correct curve on the ball, anyone can get around obstacles interfering with a successful shot. Curving the ball is also available while using motion controls, so it’s definitely a good idea to learn how to curve shots in Mario Golf: Super Rush!
