With Curb Your Enthusiasm one of the most cynical shows on TV, without a single person for viewers to rally behind, so many of the characters are pathetic down to their core. When the main characters aren’t busy blaming each other for their own mistakes, they are clearly going through some serious self-hatred.

While there are many sad things about the main character, Larry, there are just as many sad things about the poor guy who manages the Seinfeld creator. In fact, Jeff, arguably, has the saddest things about him out of any character on the show. Between being berated by his wife, having to put out Larry’s fires, and not being able to enjoy his hobbies, Jeff is utterly miserable.

Gets Shouted At By Susie

Susie gives Jeff a dirty look

Jeff isn’t exactly the perfect husband, in fact, he’s far from it. But nobody deserves to be treated the way Jeff is treated by Susie. She fat shames him, calls him out on embarrassing things in front of his friends and family, and even subjects him to physical abuse.

The Seinfeld creator’s manager might be selfish at times, among other terrible things, but he also often does try to make his family a priority, so the torment that he’s put through is not always deserved.

Always Cheating On Susie

Susie and Jeff in Curb Your Enthusiasm

Most people would look at Jeff and call him a scumbag, as he is tirelessly cheating on Susie, but for whatever reason, his actions are humored and even supported by his friends. Jeff's affairs don't do him any favors, though, as while he might have been able to keep them a secret from Susie, he’s literally had to buy a house to cover up his encounters.

Though Jeff’s actions could be a result of the way he’s treated by Susie, it doesn't excuse them, and it's clear he's very unhappy in his marriage.

Has To Fix Larry’s Mistakes

Curb Your Enthusiasm – The Doll

Being a manager of celebrities, Jeff is going to encounter problems and some tough tasks, but being the manager of Larry David means that he has to spend virtually every waking minute cleaning up after him.

Whether it’s stealing his own daughter's doll or helping him settle arguments with other stubborn celebrities, Jeff is always there for Larry. However, Jeff has cashed in on this as of late, as he also makes Larry do many favors for him and this is one of the ways Jeff has changed since the first season.

Goes Bald Because Of Larry

Though it was the result of one of the funniest plot twists of the series, it’s one of the saddest things that happened to Jeff in his life, as a surgeon mistakingly shaves his head before surgery after Larry made him angry.

It wasn’t just how Jeff looked with a bald head, but his hairless shiny head resulted in his wife being repulsed by him and Ben Stiller even refusing to sign on as a client with him.

Doesn’t Get To Go Golfing

Jeff-Larry-Circle-of-Friends-Curb-Your-Entusiasm

There are so many occasions when Jeff’s plans get ruined, and it’s no sadder than when his plans are to go golfing, as the sport is seemingly the only thing that he loves in the world.

Not only does he not get to go golfing throughout the whole series, but it all culminated with a big golf trip he had planned with his friends in season 10. Susie literally didn’t let him go because of how gleeful he looked about it, and it was one of the many times we felt bad for him.

Has To Deal With His Parents

The Greenes In Curb Your Enthusiasm

The Greenes are two of the worst recurring characters on the show, as they are constantly scrutinizing many of the other characters, including Larry, who is forced to apologize to them on several occasions, even though he never actually did anything wrong to them directly

With all of the hassle that Jeff already gets from his wife, kids, and clients, the last thing he needs are his parents breathing down his neck too.

Gets Cheated On By Susie

JEFF WEARING A COWBOY HAT

Though it might be a taste of his own medicine, as Jeff is a serial cheater, some viewers felt bad for Jeff when Susie cheated on him. It might have something to do with the fact that no matter how many affairs Jeff has, Susie has always remained monogamous, but when she develops a thing for cowboys, she cheats on Jeff with an oyster shucker who wears a cowboy hat.

Cheryl Doesn’t Like Him

Cheryl and Jeff In Fancy Dress

Though it’s one of the major changes the show made after the pilot, as the pilot saw the two of them discuss their dislike for each other, the rough edges were smoothed out for the series. Nevertheless, even though it’s never mentioned outright, it’s clear whenever Cheryl and Jeff are in a room together that Cheryl doesn’t like him, as it’s always awkward between the two of them.

Doesn’t Get Any Time To Himself

Jeff Screaming On The Phone

Between managing his clients and his home life with Susie, in which she is always either nagging or screaming at him, the celebrity manager barely seems to get a single second to himself.

Even when he is working and speaking with clients, Susie can still be seen in his office. One of the great things about Jeff is how he is often loveable and always adaptable to any social situation, but surely even he needs his downtime.

Still Married To Susie

Jeff-Susie-Curb

As Susie is clearly the catalyst for many of the saddest things about Jeff, it’s a wonder why the two are still married, and it’s one of the things that doesn’t make sense about Jeff.

Susie has kicked him out on several occasions, wherein he has had to stay on Larry’s couch or get a hotel, and the couple cheats on each other every chance they get. It’s a terrible, toxic relationship, and seeing Jeff unhappily eating dinner with Susie in every episode is the saddest thing about him.
