Side-scrolling run-and-gun action video game Cuphead will be getting the board game treatment thank to The Op Games. The video game launched in 2017 and instantly made waves thanks to Cuphead's 1930s-style animations and tough gameplay. Cuphead is one of the most recognizable indie games of all time, and the board game version is looking equally as impressive.

Cuphead's future is looking bright thanks to an upcoming Netflix show. Entitled "The Cuphead Show!", the series doesn't yet have a release date, but has been in development for some time now. The show will use the same animations seen in the video game, which are reminiscent of some of the earliest work of Walt Disney. While Cuphead fans haven't seen new video game content in a while, DLC for the game is in the works, and players were also able to enjoy a Cuphead and Fall Guys collaboration earlier this year.

Announcing the news on Twitter, The Op Games has revealed a first look at the upcoming Cuphead tabletop adventure, which is named "Cuphead: Fast Rolling Dice." The game will be a cooperative dice game for 1-4 players who need to defeat "one imposing boss after another as you move, parry, and shoot your way through." Fast Rolling Dice will have a focus on strategic play, with features inspired by the video game including Wallop cards and EX dice, as well as coins to be spent at Porkrind’s Emporium. The Op Games explains:

"With every unpredictable result comes a different way to improve your strategy and high score, which is tallied based on multiple stat categories: remaining Health and Parry tokens, Wallop cards, and time tokens. Just like in the classic Cuphead game experience, these categories combine to give you a point total that grades your run academically from A to F."

Cuphead: Fast Rolling Dice will be available sometime during fall 2021, and will retail for around $49.99.

Those who've played Cuphead will likely recognize a number of characters included in the tabletop experience, with Cuphead, Mugman, Ms. Chalice, and Elder Kettle all making their return. Players will need to play as all characters simultaneously in order to defeat the game's eight bosses, all of which are known from the beloved video game. The Cuphead video game is recognized for its difficulty, and while it's not been confirmed how hard the tabletop version is, players can likely expect to find that a similar level of skill and strategy is required.

As well as a board game and Netflix show, Cuphead fans also have new video game content to look forward to. The Cuphead video game developer Studio MDHR is preparing for the release of Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course, a DLC expansion that was delayed indefinitely last November. While its release date is unknown, it's expected to be coming sometime this year, which could place its launch in a similar timeframe to the board game.
