Just ahead of Crysis Remastered’s release on Switch, Crytek has shared the game’s resolution along with the best look at its gameplay yet. The developer recently showed off some of the upcoming game’s impressive visuals in a short tech features video.

Crysis Remastered was revealed back in April of this year, but it was only in late June when Crytek finally showed the game for the first time and kicked off the strange saga of its changing release date. After Crytek promised a gameplay trailer, the footage leaked early and fans complained about its uninspiring visuals. Crytek responded by delaying the game to work on getting it up to fans’ expectations, then reversed course a week later by announcing that Crysis Remastered would release on time for the Nintendo Switch but was still being pushed back on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Following its release date fake-out, Crysis Remastered is set to hit the Switch this week, on Thursday, July 23rd. Crytek had released a few short gameplay trailers leading up to its release but provided a much more substantial look today in a developer livestream. The archived stream shows nearly 30 minutes of gameplay from the Switch version of Crysis Remastered along with developer commentary. During the stream, the developers addressed several issues about the game, including the different resolutions that it will display in docked and handheld mode. According to the developers, Crysis Remastered will run at 720p to 900p while docked and 540p to 720p in handheld mode. They also confirmed that the Switch release will lack the ray tracing promised for the PS4 and Xbox One versions and use FXAA for anti-aliasing.

The Nintendo Switch release of Crysis Remastered was never going to be the best looking version of the game, but the reputation of the original Crysis may be working against its perception as well. Crysis is remembered as a technical showcase with stunning graphics that PCs struggled to run on high settings for years to come. Players expecting the game to be as impressive today as it was more than 10 years ago are bound to be disappointed, but those coming to it with more reasonable expectations may find more to like.

While the original Crysis is best remembered for its visual quality, Crysis Remastered will have to lean more on its gameplay to be a success. This week’s Switch release will be the first chance for it to show that there’s still a compelling game under the impressive visuals, but releasing it before the presumably better looking PS4 and Xbox One versions could backfire if it doesn’t hold up to how fans remember the original.
