A new video for Cry Macho celebrates Clint Eastwood’s legacy. The legendary filmmaker is set to direct and star in the upcoming drama, which is set in the 1970s and follows a washed up rodeo star. Cry Macho is Eastwood’s return to the western roots that served as a foundation for the 91-year-old actor’s career, which has spanned a total of eight full decades.

One of the last great western movie stars, Eastwood got his first big break starring as Rowdy Yates on the 1959 TV series, Rawhide. However, starring as the Man with No Name in Sergio Leone’s Dollars Trilogy, which includes Fistful of Dollars and its subsequent sequels, is what made Eastwood into a genre legend. Throughout his lengthy career, Eastwood would periodically venture back to westerns, such as 1976’s The Outlaw Josey Wales and 1992’s Unforgiven (his last western). Eastwood’s incredible career has also included numerous non-western critically-acclaimed films, such as Million Dollar Baby and Gran Torino, among others. Coinciding with the release of his next big feature, Cry Macho is paying tribute to Eastwood’s Hollywood career.

Based on the screenplay of the same name by novelist N. Richard Nash, who passed away in 2000, Cry Macho is an uplifting, poignant drama that sees the one-time rode star, Mike Milo (Eastwood), take a job to bring his ex-boss’s young son home safe from Mexico. Along the way, the pair run into challenges that ultimately bring the two closer together, with the journey serving as a shot at redemption for Milo. The film stars Eduardo Minett, as the young boy, in his feature film debut opposite the 91-year-old movie veteran. Just like the plot of the story, Cry Macho serves as Eastwood’s chance to pass on his wisdom to the younger generation.

Given his lucrative career as a filmmaker, Eastwood has an opportunity to pay tribute to his cowboy screen persona in the upcoming movie. As the video points out above, the film is Eastwood’s return to a genre that has served him well. More than anything, seeing Eastwood back in the saddle of a horse in the Cry Macho trailer has filled eager fans with excitement for the new movie.
