The wars in ancient times can include undead factions, as a new mod for Crusader Kings 3 based on Vampire: The Masquerade is now available a day after the game was released. Crusader Kings 3 is a grand strategy game about warring dynasties across the ancient world, while Vampire: The Masquerade is a tabletop RPG set in contemporary times, about warring factions of vampires vying for control of society.

There was once a Vampire: The Masquerade spin-off called Dark Ages: Vampire, which uses a setting similar to that of Crusader Kings 3. In Dark Ages: Vampire, the undead didn't work as hard to conceal their identity, leading to their near destruction at the hands of the Inquisition. This period of vampire history was shown in Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemptionand it was used as a basis for a mod in Crusader Kings 2.

Crusader Kings 3 has been released to critical acclaim, and it already has a mod that adds the Kindred from Vampire: The Masquerade as playable characters. The Prince of Darkness mod changes many aspects of the game, as the player no longer needs to concern themselves with the ravages of time, but they face a new foe, as they must now contend with the dark side of their personality. The Prince of Darkness mod can be found on Steam.

Crusader Kings 3 Vampire the Masquerade Character Portrait

In Crusader Kings 3, the player controls an entire dynasty through its leading member. The player could start out controlling a duke, who then has to make favorable marriage matches for his family, any of whom could become the next playable character when the duke dies, depending on the line of succession. In the Prince of Darkness mod, the player character is immortal, which means succession isn't as important. What is important is managing the hunger and stress of the player character, as it's possible for them to be consumed by their own dark side and be forced to abdicate. Immortality does not mean invulnerable, so the player also needs to worry about the Inquisition, as well as assassins hired by their more ambitious children.

The Prince of Darkness mod for Crusader Kings 3 offers a major overhaul to the game that transforms a story about a war in the Middle Ages to one of immortal beings trying to hold onto their humanity, as they attempt to control the destiny of everyone around them. The Vampire: The Masquerade fans who had no interest in Crusader Kings 3 before might want to check it out now, as it brings grand strategy to the World of Darkness.
