Series creator Eugene Jarvis recently expressed an interest in potentially remastering the original Cruis'n trilogy for Nintendo Switch. In the coming weeks, Switch owners will have the opportunity to pick up a different experience from the iconic arcade racing property, with Cruis'n Blast set to hit the hybrid console in mid-September.

The now-defunct Midway Games introduced the series as arcade title Cruis'n USA in 1994. In addition to being a popular arcade racer, it proved quite the runaway success on Nintendo 64, spawning two sequels - 1996's Cruis'n World and 1999's Cruis'n Exotica. Both received ports on Nintendo hardware, further cementing the brand's history on the platform. Three additional adventures have launched in the 20-plus years since then, including Cruis'n Velocity, Cruis'n for the Wii, and 2017's Cruis'n Blast, which will soon migrate to the Nintendo Switch. And, apparently, Eugene Jarvis wants to bring even more of the racing experiences forward to newer hardware.

Speaking with Nintendo Life about the forthcoming release of Cruis'n Blast, Eugene Jarvis said he and his crew at Raw Thrills have considered remastering the classic trilogy, comprised of the aforementioned Cruis'n USA, Cruis'n World, and Cruis'n Exotica. It's not a sure thing as of yet, but were such a project to come to fruition, Jarvis told the publication that a full HD up-res and 60Hz frame rate would each serve as top priorities. Jarvis teased the following: "We’ve been tossing around some ideas – one thing I’ve been tossing around is to remaster the classic arcade Cruis’n trilogy especially for the Switch, up-resing the content to full HD and solid 60Hz frame rate!"

A full remaster for the first three games in the franchise would no doubt please many a Cruis'n fan, especially since these seminal experiences aren't currently available on modern platforms. How exactly Raw Thrills will determine to pursue a remastered trilogy remains unknown, but the potential success of Cruis'n Blast on Switch could serve as one motivating factor.

Cruis'n in arcades and on home consoles always takes players to interesting locales around the globe. From Las Vegas and Ireland to Singapore and Madagascar, this particular racing series has left no stone unturned. The third entry, Cruis'n Exotica, even featured a Mars level that put players through the paces.
