Some new actors will be joining the cast of The Crown to portray the queen and members of the royal family in season 3. Created by Peter Morgan, The Crown is Netflix's prestigious multiple Emmy and BAFTA-award nominated series about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. For The Crown season 3, the entire cast has been replaced with new actors replacing Emmy award-winner Claire Foy, Matt Smith, and BAFTA award-winner Vanessa Kirby as the Queen, Prince Philip, and Princess Margaret.

The Crown season 3 picks up the story in 1964 and will deal with major events such as the tragedy in Aberfan, Wales, the investiture of Prince Charles as Prince of Wales, and the collapse of Princess Margaret's marriage to Lord Snowdon. Further, since The Crown season 3 is set in the 1960s and 1970s, the series will show how the Royal Family interacted with President Lyndon B. Johnson, the rise of a Labour government headed by Prime Minister Harold Wilson, and the 1969 moon landing.
