The Crow Reboot Casting Breakdown Reveals Characters & Start Date

The Crow Reboot Jason Momoa

A casting breakdown and start date have been revealed for the long-awaited reboot of The Crow. The Crow is based on the graphic novel by James O'Barr, which was first adapted for the big screen in 1994. The film has since become a cult movie, thanks to its great performances, gothic visuals and action scenes. Leading man Brandon Lee was tragically killed onset in an accident involving a defective blank, with his remaining scenes being completed using CGI and body doubles.

The success of the original lead to a number of poorly received sequels and a short-lived TV series. A remake of The Crow has been mooted for nearly a decade, with actors such as Bradley Cooper, Luke Evans and Mark Wahlberg being attached at various stages. Whenever the movie appeared to take a step forward, something would knock it back again, be it a director suddenly dropping out or the production company going bankrupt. Now the reboot is closer than ever to becoming a reality, with Jason Momoa playing the title role and Corin Hardy (The Nun) directing.

A casting breakdown for The Crow has just arrived via Dread Central and reveals the movie will stick fairly close to the story of the original, but with some intriguing new additions. The characters of Albrecht and Top Dollar will both be female in this new version, and while the latter was the main villain of the original movie, it seems T-Bird has been promoted to lead bad guy. The familiar gang will be joined by a new character called Ratso, who is described as "20s, bad face, bad skin, bad teeth. A loser of life’s lottery and he knows it." Read the breakdowns below:

[T-BIRD] 30, strong and wiry with the cold eyes of a wolf and an endless hunger where his heart should be. Lacking in conscience, covered in prison ink. Has taken over the old Hotel Reno on the outskirts of town where he rolls with Top Dollar and his notorious gang. Tonight he becomes a made man, but deep down he knows he wants it all…

[TOP DOLLAR] 20s – 30s, a lean, reptilian woman who came of age amidst lust and cruelty and has survived by embracing both. She possesses an almost psychic instict for seeking out a lie, her withering gaze something of a Medusa… T-Bird’s girl and co-manager of Hotel Reno, where she has been using her charm to draw in susceptible girls…

[SHELLY] 28 – 35, Eric’s one true love. A dancer with effortless talent.. Her undeniable beauty is matched only by her passion to teach dance to the inner city girls at her home studio. Shelly hopes to create peace in the community through teaching children, until she is brutally murdered by T-Bird and Top Dollar’s gang, setting off a violent chainof events as Eric seeks to avenge her death..

Brandon Lee in The Crow

[DETECTIVE ALBRECHT] 40s – 50s, female. A world-weary soul in a rumpled suit. Haunted by the unsolved murders of Eric and Shelly. Dealing with marital issues and fighting against an ever-increasing wave of crime and corruption in the city. The heart of a warrior, Albrecht is determined to prevail against all odds…

[RATSO] 20s, bad face, bad skin, bad teeth. A loser of life’s lottery and he knows it. Wannabe T-Bird. Nurses a hatred of all things beautiful and proud, TinTin is a special treasure to him, a big man he can look down on. Rolls with T-Bird’s gang and runs his numbers, but dreams of being #1…

[FUN BOY] 20s – 30s, his bloodstream a seething cocktail of illegal pharmacology. His eyes fixed in the stare of a man seeing visions. Fun Boy runs T-Bird’s drug kitchens at the Hotel Reno. He wears a long leather trench coat sporting a happy-skull-face…

[TIN TIN] 30s, a hulking monster of a man, with unstoppable fists. T-Bird’s indefeatable champion in the ring. Mean and tough. Accustomed to being shunned, grateful for the society of savages who have taken him in (T-Bird, Top Dollar, Ratso, Fun Boy, Gideon)…

The Crow reboot is due to start filming this July in Budapest, so hopefully, nothing will stall the production between now and then. The movie should also test the star power of Momoa, who first broke out on Games Of Thrones and is currently playing Aquaman in the DCEU. Many fans consider him perfect casting for the role of resurrected rock star Eric Draven, so this could be the project that promotes him to leading man status.

That said, some fans would rather leave the original alone and would prefer if The Crow wasn't remade at all. This includes Alex Proyas, the director of the 1994 movie, who believes the movie should be left alone as a tribute to late star Brandon Lee.
