The family of The Crow star Brandon Lee react to the news of the incidental death of Rust's cinematographer from a prop gun fired by Alec Baldwin. Lee was set to make his breakthrough performance in the 1994 adaptation of James O'Barr's graphic novel of the same name in which a murdered musician is resurrected a year after his death to avenge he and his fiancé. The Crow became infamous in Hollywood as Lee was fatally wounded and killed while filming the sequence in which his character is initially murdered.

The Crow would go on to become a sleeper hit at the box office and score largely positive reviews from critics and audiences alike and amass a cult following over the years. This success spawned multiple sequels and a TV show with different protagonists taking on the titular mantle, though none would reach the same critical or commercial success as Lee's film. While some have looked towards the film as a teachable moment, recent events have seemingly proven otherwise.

On the heels of news breaking about the tragedy, Lee's family took to his Twitter account to share their reaction to the incidental death of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounding of director Joel Souza. The family expressed their condolences for the loss of the former and stated "no one should ever be killed" by a prop gun on a film set. See Lee's family's message below:

Lee's death sent a tragic wave of shock through Hollywood nearly 20 years ago and continues to be a reminder of the dangers of not taking every precaution on such a production shoot. It has also drawn a number of parallels with the passing of his father, iconic martial artist Bruce Lee, who died just a few years older than The Crow star and in the midst of his stardom on both the big and small screen. The response from Lee's family is one many are sure to share in response to the tragedy, namely as extra measures have been taken to ensure actors' safety on genre films over the years.

Details are still slowly being uncovered about the incident from the Rust set, on which Baldwin concocted the story for with writer/director Souza and was starring and producing. Baldwin has since come out and expressed his shock at the incident and confirmed he is fully cooperating with the authorities to help address the incident and bring it to some form of close for all those involved. With the investigation only having just begun on the incident, it's currently unknown if or when production may resume on Rust.
