Critical Role, the weekly web series in which a host of voice actors play Dungeons & Dragons together, rolled a natural 20 today with a new Kickstarter campaign for its upcoming animated feature, The Legend of Vox Machina. Shattering its original goal four times over in its first day, fans of Critical Role - who call themselves "Critters" - have already raised more than $3 million at the time of writing in order to help make The Legend of Vox Machina a reality.

Critical Role, made up of voice performance industry veterans Matthew Mercer (Attack on TitanResident Evil series), Ashley Johnson (Teen TitansThe Last of Us), Marisha Ray (Friday the 13th game), Taliesin Jaffe (Hellsing), Travis Willingham (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood), Sam Riegel (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2003 series), Laura Bailey (Dragon Ball ZFullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood), and Liam O'Brien (NarutoMiddle Earth: Shadow of War), is expanding from its tabletop roots into animation for the first time. The Legend of Vox Machina will follow the characters Critical Role roleplayed in their first D&D campaign, and fans have more than proven their excitement to see the roles brought to life by smashing the project's fundraising goals.

Posted only today, The Legend of Vox Machina's Kickstarter has attracted a massively impressive three-and-a-half million dollars within its first twenty-four hours. Having originally asked for $750,000, this explosively fast fundraising campaign has already shattered all of its stretch goals, which only extended to $3 million raised. Initially planned as a 22-minute short animated by Titmouse, the talented studio behind Netflix's Big Mouth and Adult Swim's The Venture Bros., the rapid achievement of every planned stretch goal has extended The Legend of Vox Machina's total time to "a whopping 88 minutes of animation." In an update, Critical Role expressed its immense gratitude towards its backers, stating:

"The support of the community on this project has been humbling, to say the least. We’re so excited to bring this animated special to life. AND YOU DID IT! And you did it in LESS THAN EIGHT HOURS."

Sporting reward tiers that range from $20 to $25,000, Critical Role's complete surprise at their crowdfunding campaign's major success is completely warranted when taking a closer look at how much cash some fans have put down to help realize The Legend of Vox Machina. While no fans have yet to donate $25,000 or more, which will net the most giving of backers with an "all-expense paid" trip to a private showing of the feature in L.A. when it (tentatively) releases in "Fall 2020," more than seventy backers of The Legend of Vox Machina have already pledged more than $1000 apiece. Though fans have already secured all of the campaign's currently promised stretch rewards, Critical Role may extend breadth of these goals and their incentives, assuring backers that they'll keep them posted as "it's not over yet."

At the time of writing, The Legend of Vox Machina's Kickstarter total is still happily ticking up with each passing moment. Barring absolute disaster, which is about as unprecedented at this point as the sudden success Critical Role's campaign has been met with so far, die-hard Critters can look forward to seeing their favorite characters from the show's first campaign come to life in The Legend of Vox Machina as early as next year.
