The popular webseries Critical Role has grown to include comics, games, and a Vox Machina animated series. What started as a group of voice actors playing Dungeons & Dragons online, the characters created for the campaign grew into household names for their adoring fans, leading many to ask the question: how did Vox Machina actually unite? That answer was a story that could only be told in a Dark Horse comic book, beginning as Vox Machina Origins, and chronicling the events that turned these unlikely teammates into the well-known adventurers (for hire) they ultimately became. Now Vox Machina Origins III assembles the same comic book team of series creator and host Matthew Mercer co-writing with Jody Houser (Orphan Black, Stranger Things), art by Olivia Samson and Diana Sousa, and letters by Ariana Maher (Xena).
The first issue of Vox Machina Origins III saw the team spend their coin as quickly as they made it, leaving them in search of their next payday. And while the heartbroken Westruun mother in search of her missing son is clearly unresolved for now, the heroes have more important concerns. For starters, they agreed to take part in "The Brawler's League of Tal'dorei" before even knowing what kind of a fight they were in for. The final page of Issue #1 confirmed they would be facing formidable opponents in "Goreshon's Fist," in what looks to be a fight to the death (or permanent incapacitation, at the very least).
