Fans of Critical Role will be pleased to hear that another graphic novel is on its way, with Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins - Mollymauk Tealeaf the next official graphic novel in the Mighty Nein Origins line. The book arrives this September from Dark Horse, and is set to focus on the titular character, Mollymauk.
Critical Role began as a web series in 2015 and has since grown to include an animated series, tabletop games, art books, live events, a novel, and a few comic series and graphic novels. The comic series have included Critical Role: Vox Machina Origins and Critical Role: The Chronicles of Exandria, all of which have been - or will be - collected in trade paperback editions. There are also multiple graphic novels in the works within the Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins line of stories.
Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins - Mollymauk Tealeaf has the creative team of Jody Houser, Hunter Bonyun, Cathy Le, Ariana Maher, and Critical Role's Matthew Mercer and Taliesin Jaffe. Houser previously wrote the second and third series of Critical Role: Vox Machina Origins. These series, as well the new graphic novel, are being published by Dark Horse Comics.
What strange events created Mollymauk Tealeaf? Entertainer, fighter, and performer, "Molly" has a knack for hiding his true self behind the shifting color and shape of a personality he seems to wear like his singular coat. But as with every member of the Mighty Nein, his past will eventually catch up with him...and it's a strange one indeed.
The other characters included in Critical Role's Mighty Nein Origins line are Caleb Widogast, Jester Lavorre, Nott the Brave, and Yasha Nydoorin. Some of the graphic novels focused on them will be released later this month. The Mighty Nein are a party of adventurers. They were featured in Critical Role's second campaign from 2018. Mollymauk Tealeaf, also known as Molly, is a Tiefling played by Taliesin Jaffe - one of the founders of Critical Role. Tieflings are usually humanoids that descend from infernal beings or from within the Nine Hells.
There are ten members within the Mighty Nein party. They include Beauregard Lionett, Caduceus Clay, Caleb Widogast, Fjord, Jester Lavorre, Mollymauk Tealeaf, Veth Brenatto, Yasha Nydooring, Essek Thelyss, and Kingsley Tealeaf. With the latest graphic novel, half of the party's members will have their own origin stories, adding to the lore of Critical Role's adventures. These are the stories that fans have never known, allowing them to get to know their favorite party members' histories.
