A new Supergirl clip confirms an early and devastating loss for the titular hero in Crisis on Infinite Earths. Though it first debuted on CBS, Supergirl ultimately made the move to The CW ahead of its second season. There, it more official joined what is collectively known as the Arrowversejoining the likes of The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow. In the years since then, the annual crossover event has become a staple of the collective CW universe. Crisis on Infinite Earths promises to be the biggest one yet. Characters from Batwoman and Black Lightning will have a prominent role for the first time.

The majority of the Crisis on Infinite Earths build-up has occurred on Arrow and The Flash. Both Oliver Queen and Barry Allen told that they would have to sacrifice their lives in service of saving the multiverse. As such, Arrow season 8 and The Flash season 6 has largely followed the heroes coming to terms with that fact. Arrow also served to help prepare Oliver for what's to come, with him and the members of Team Arrow undertaking missions on behalf of The Monitor. The mission culminated with Lyla Michaels officially transformed into Harbinger. Equally, The Flash recently concluded with Nash Wells seemingly being transformed into PariahSupergirl, meanwhile, has largely focused on its individual stories - until The Monitor made himself known on Earth-38 in the last episode.

In a new sneak peek released by TVLine, however, it's confirmed that Supergirl will be one of the first to be hit with a monumental loss - the destruction of Argo. Fans will no doubt remember that Argo is a domed city in space within which survivors of Krypton's destruction live. Having discovered Argo's existence in Supergirl season 3, Kara found her mother, Alura, among them. Though Supergirl ultimately returned to Earth, it provided her solace that part of her homeworld and family lived on. So that Lois Lane could safely give birth to their child, Superman was said to be staying in Argo throughout Supergirl season 4. Based on the clip, however, Superman returned not a moment too soon. Mourning the loss together, Superman questions how Kara can remain so hopeful. Check out the clip below:

The destruction of Argo was previously teased in the official Crisis on Infinite Earths trailer. Given the high level of secrecy surrounding the crossover, however, many questioned whether things were as they seemed. Some posited that it was merely a projection of where the anti-matter wave was going to hit next, prompting a dramatic rescue. Equally, even if Argo was destroyed, it didn't mean that it hadn't been evacuated first. The clip, however, confirms that neither such action was able to take place. As such, Kara's mother is specifically mentioned as one of the casualties.

That Kara can remain so strong even in the face of such an emotional loss will be no surprise to Supergirl fans. Kara has, after all, proven herself incredibly resilient over the years as her confidence as a hero as risen. That such a loss occurs early in the first episode, however, will be a different matter entirely. If this is the kind of defeat and emotional turmoil fans can expect early on, it will no doubt fuel the dread over what's to come across the rest of the episodes. Not to mention what shape the Arrowverse will be in when the dust settles.
