Warning: SPOILERS for Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 2.

Crisis on Infinite Earths officially made Smallville part of the Arrowverse canon. The second hour of the event revealing what happened after the Tom Welling-led drama ended in 2011. As the heroes are looking for the Paragons that the Monitor (LaMonica Garrett) believes can join the fight. One of them was Welling’s Clark Kent who Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch), Iris West-Allen (Candice Patton), and Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) find on Earth-167.

But when they find this version of the Last Son of Krypton, it’s not who they were expecting. As Earth-38’s Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer) is traveling across the Multiverse to kill every Superman in existence, he arrives on Earth-167 to go after Smallville’s Superman. However, as Lex tries to use Kryptonite on this Clark, the villain is given a surprise. At some point in Smallville’s off-screen continuity, Clark gave up his Kryptonian abilities.

Clark reveals to this Lex that he gave up his powers to be a father. This is where his Lois (Erica Durance) enters, revealing to viewers that they have daughters. While his daughters are not named nor seen on-screen, this is a major chapter in Lois and Clark’s lives. The episode also confirms that at some point after the events of the Smallville series finale, they finally got married. Even though he isn't seen, Clark reveals that his Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) is now the President of the United States. Something that viewers and readers of the Smallville Season 11 comic may have picked up on was Clark's lack of knowledge of the Multiverse.

Smallville Ending Superman Tom Welling

According to producer Marc Guggenheim, the Season 11 storyline would be canon to the TV show for the crossover. However, when Lois, Iris, and Clark arrive to ask this Superman for help with saving the Multiverse, it seems to be new information for Welling's character. In the chapter "Continuity" of the tie-in comic, the final installment became Smallville's own version of Crisis on Infinite Earths. But despite having dealt with Monitors and the concept of infinite worlds, the episode doesn't hint that the events of "Continuity" has taken place. Given that this was the final story in the Season 11 run, Clark must have given up his powers sometime after "Continuity."

It's fair to assume that this episode picks up at least a few years after the final comic story ended. That would have allowed Clark to give up being Superman and having kids with Lois. It remains, however, unclear if wanting a normal life with Lois was the only reason Clark gave up his abilities. With three more parts left of the crossover, it's not impossible that Smallville's Clark and Lois will be seen again. When Durance was added to the crossover, it was set for "multiple episodes", one being in the Supergirl portion as Kara's (Melissa Benoist) mother Alura. But as Argo got destroyed, Alura died along with the last living piece of Krypton. Only time will tell how much more of Smallville fans will see in the remaining three parts of Crisis on Infinite Earths.
