The Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion launch trailer has given fans a look at its cast, including several familiar faces from Final Fantasy VII Remake. First released in 2007 on the PlayStation Portable, the original Crisis Core was a prequel to Final Fantasy VII. As part of the continuing franchise grown from the success of Final Fantasy VII Remake, Square Enix announced a remaster, Crisis Core Reunion, in celebration of Final Fantasy VII’s 25th anniversary.

Recently, the official Final Fantasy YouTube account posted the launch trailer for Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion, which focused mainly on story and characters. Taking center stage were the high-definition designs for the Crisis Core cast. While the Final Fantasy VII Remake already gave Zack Fair his HD treatment, the rest of the Crisis Core alumni, like the villainous Genesis and the tragic Angeal, debuted their HD redesigns in the trailer. Other characters like Director Lazard and Dr. Hollander also got some time in the spotlight.

As Crisis Core is a game set in the Final Fantasy VII universe, fans can also expect to see many popular characters from the main game return as well. Those who've already played Final Fantasy VII Remake may notice that the Crisis Core designs for Cloud and Aerith are now more in line with their Remake counterparts. Reno and the Turks are also returning, along with FF7 Remake heroine Tifa, whose character goes through some tough times in Crisis Core.

Though Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion isn't the overhaul Final Fantasy VII Remake was, it still has plenty to offer aside from a new paint job. Unlike the original entry, the remaster will be fully voiced and, as confirmed by Square Enix, it also boasts new dialogue the original game didn't have. The DMW (Digital Mind Wave) battle system is also being reworked to be more in line with combat from Final Fantasy VII Remake, and less intrusive during battle. While the story is said to be mostly intact, it'll be interesting to see if there are any modifications due to the plot changes introduced in the FF7 Remake.

The polished new looks for the cast in the Crisis Core Reunion launch trailer are a good sign that Square Enix is putting effort into this remaster. Time will tell if the impressive visuals are backed up by strong gameplay. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion will release on December 13 of this year, and it will hopefully be another strong entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake universe.

    Summary:
Crisis Core - Final Fantasy 7- Reunion is a remaster of the PSP original and a prequel to the original Final Fantasy 7. Players will take up SOLDIER-in-training Zack Fair, the man that would be the admiration of Cloud Strife. Zack, wanting to follow in the footsteps of his mentor, Angeal, and the most outstanding SOLDIER, Sephiroth, diligently trains to live up to their legacy. However, SOLDIER operatives begin to go missing en masse, and Sephiroth is one of them. Now a full-fledged SOLDIER, Zack is dispatched along with Angeal to investigate their whereabouts - but what they find is a conspiracy that goes deeper than the mako energy-powered metropolis of Midgar. Crisis Core -Final Fantasy 7- Reunion directly sets up the events that lead to Cloud's origins and even answers the question of where Cloud got the Buster Sword. This entry updates the graphics for a modern age and redesigns the combat system to make it more action-oriented, much like its future sequel, Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
