The first trailer for Netflix's Criminal: UK season 2 is out, and Kit Harington is a suspect. Netflix rolled out its one-of-a-kind psychological police procedural franchise, Criminal, last year when it set four series, each consisting of three episodes, in four different countries. Criminal: UK, Criminal: Spain, Criminal: Germany, and Criminal: France are the four different versions of the three-part Netflix drama, each of which is performed in its respective country's native language and by native stars. For their first seasons, Netflix had released all four Criminal series simultaneously in September 2019. But it appears that the streamer is doing things differently this time around. Criminal: UK is the only show from the Criminal series to have scored a second season so far, and that is poised to premiere on 16 September 2020.

Criminal: UK season 1, like all other shows in the Netflix anthology, was set within the confines of a police interrogation room and a darkened viewing room that were separated by a large one-way mirror. The premise followed a team of London investigators who, through vigorous cross-questioning and vehement mind games, grilled shady suspects. Their interrogation ensued a psychological cat-and-mouse chase which in each episode, unwinded harsh realities and revealed the truth about the cases. Criminal: UK season 1 had featured A-listed performers David Tennant, Hayley Atwell, and Youssef Kerkour as prime suspects. And now the show's second season has recruited another star-studded set of guest actors, who will headline new cases in the series.

Netflix dropped the trailer for Criminal: UK season 2 today, revealing its new lineup of starry defendants. As the trailer depicts, Kit Harington has returned to TV after a year-and-a-half-long hiatus since the closure of Game of Thrones. But his role in the new venture is a far cry from his previous noble Jon Snow portrayal. Harington's character in Criminal's upcoming season is largely under wraps, but as one can tell based on the show's twisty stature and its enigmatic trailer, he is clearly hiding a skeleton in his closet. Take a look at the trailer for Criminal: UK season 2 below.

As the trailer also shows, Harington isn't the only suspect that the canny investigators have been tasked to interrogate. Joining Harington as the main suspects in Criminal: UK season 2's other episodes, are The Big Bang Theory's Kunal Nayyar, Pulling's Sharon Horgan, and Hotel Rwanda's Sophie Okonedo. Nayyar, Horgan, and Okonedo will head to the witness room along with Harington to tell twisted- and at times- falsified narratives of the crimes they are involved in. Each will be questioned for a different offense, and the detectives will then establish who is guilty, and who is innocent. Criminal: UK's original police force, which consists of Lee Ingleby, Katherine Kelly, and Shubham Saraf, has returned for the show's second innings. Nicholas Pinnock, who played an inspector in the first season, however, will not reprise his role.

Despite a claustrophobic setting, Criminal: UK season 2 seems just as piercing and captivating as its original version. The show's new trailer has demonstrated that it will continue with its visual experimentations, while also tossing around cryptic elements to help viewers decode the mysteries. As for Harington's cameo, his new debonair get-up is a fresh break from his medieval, scruffy King-of-the-North image. Harington's comeback to the fiction space was highly anticipated. He was tipped to appear in Marvel's Eternals in 2021, but his early comeback has really elated fans. Harington, Nayyar, Targon, and Okonedo are all celebrated performers, and their appearance in the multi-national desk-thriller is bound to grab viewers.
