'Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior' Trailer & Behind the Scenes Video

Check out a new trailer for the 'Criminal Minds' spinoff 'Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior,' along with new behind the scenes footage, and see if it will live up to the main series.

Forrest Whitaker and the rest of the cast of Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior

In less than two weeks, Criminal Minds fans will have two things to cheer about. As we reported back in December, Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior, the new spin-off of the popular crime drama, will air directly after the original Criminal Minds on February 16th.

The spin-off features Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker as the head of a new team of FBI behavioral analysts. In addition to Whitaker, Suspect Behavior features a well-rounded cast including Janeane Garofalo, Matt Ryan, Michael Kelly, Beau Garrett and Kirsten Vangsness. Like the original series, this team will focus on taking down the baddest bad guys out there, serial killers and other violent offenders included.

Criminal Minds has one of the most passionate fanbases of any current TV show, which is why I thought it was interesting that about half of the commenters on our previous article were excited about the new show, while the other half were worried that it wouldn't live up to the original.

Maybe these two new videos from CBS will help get everybody on the same page. The first is a two-minute trailer for the show, highlighting the action and drama that the new cast will bring to the Criminal Minds franchise, while the second is a behind the scenes look at the show with interviews from the cast and crew.

I rip on police procedurals a lot here at Screen Rant (even though I'm a sucker for Law & Order: SVU), because they're frequently unoriginal. When you're dealing with a spinoff show, it's even more of a risk. TV viewers are forced to ask, "What does this show bring to the table that the original didn't?"

However, based on these videos and the strength of the original series, I'm willing to bet that Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior ends up being a solid new series for CBS. It's easy to complain about formulaic television when the formula is no good. But, if you have something that works, and you can make it work again, why not give it a try?

What do you think of Forest Whitaker and his crew in action? Is this on your must-watch list for new TV shows?

Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior airs on February 16th at 10PM ET/9PM CT.
