Fox premiered Crime Scene Kitchen, a new reality baking competition, in May 2021, and now fans are excited about the renewal of another season. The series follows bakers who have to decode the type of dessert prepared in a kitchen using only crumbs, flour trails, and some clues. Viewers were delighted by the investigative nature of the competition and were trying to figure out if there would be more.

With these clues, the bakers need to recreate the desserts that were made there. Each episode has two rounds, the dessert round and the showpiece round. The team that gets closest to identifying the correct dessert in the first round is awarded an extra clue in the showpiece round. Anyone who guesses the right dessert in the showpiece round is then safe from elimination. The bakers who guessed incorrectly are judged by taste, and whoever performed the worst is sent home. With Crime Scene Kitchen hosted by Joel McHale, each episode gives new bakers a chance to participate.

Crime Scene Kitchen Will Return In 2023

What fans seemed to enjoy most about Crime Scene Kitchen was playing detectives themselves. Only the two judges, Yolanda Gampp and Curtis Stone know what the desserts are in each round. Therefore, viewers get to guess the dessert along with the contestants as they search through the evidence left behind. While some of them are easy enough to figure out, other Crime Kitchen clues are proven to be too difficult for even the best bakers to solve.

Another element of Crime Scene Kitchen’s success was its cast. Joel will likely return for Crime Scene Kitchen season 2 as the host, considering he’s also credited as a producer. Whether Crime Scene Kitchen judge Yolanda and Curtis will continue judging has yet to be confirmed. There’s speculation that Curtis won’t be returning due to his role as an Iron Chef on Netflix’s Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend. However, the Iron Chef reboot premiered on June 15, meaning they probably wrapped up filming a few months earlier. So, Curtis' schedule may still permit him an appearance on Crime Scene Kitchen.

All in all, Crime Scene Kitchen’s unique scavenger hunt baking game format enthralled viewers, leaving them hungry for more. Fox’s order earlier this year for Crime Scene Kitchen season 2 came with the announcement of their other unscripted lineup. Next Level Chef was also renewed for a second season and will return in the new year, while Hell’s Kitchen season 21 was picked up and premiered in September. A release date for Crime Scene Kitchen season 2 has yet to be announced; however, since Crime Scene Kitchen season 1 premiered at the end of May, there’s speculation that fans may be rewarded with an early release in Spring 2023. Without any confirmation, fans will have to patiently wait for more Crime Scene Kitchen updates.
