Snapchat has launched a new feature called Shared Stories. Over the years, Snapchat has developed various products to increase engagement on the application and enhance the user experience. For instance, Snapchatters can send each other Snaps to create Snap Streaks that appear beside the username. Recently, the platform launched a feature that allows users to embed YouTube videos in their Snap and send it over to their friends, who can simply click on the thumbnail and watch the video.

On Snapchat, users post Stories to keep their friends updated about the happenings in their life. Until now, Snapchat allowed users to post two types of Stories — Private Story and Custom Story. When a Snapchat user adds a Private Story, it is only visible to people selected by the user, and it appears with a padlock icon. The second type of Story has been refreshed by Snapchat and is now called Shared Story.

In the official post, Team Snap announced that "Shared Stories is a new iteration of Custom Stories." Essentially, Snapchat has revamped the original Custom Stories feature launched in 2017, which allowed Snapchatters to add friends who could contribute to a Snapchat Story. However, Shared Stories will allow users who are already a part of the Story to add more users, bringing in more people to engage with the content. In a nutshell, Snapchat's Shared Stories will allow users and their friends to create Snaps together and share them.

To create a Shared Story on Snapchat, users should head over to their profile and tap on '+ New Story' and from the available options, choose 'Shared Stories.' After that, users will be asked to name the Shared Story and add their friends as members, who'll be able to add/remove their Snaps from the Shared Story and add other members as well. The user who creates a Shared Story can not only add but remove Snaps, delete a Shared Story, and remove members. Additionally, the owners can appoint moderators to a Shared Story who can add/remove and ban/unban members and, like other participants, send and receive Snaps.

Members can press and hold on to the Story and tap on 'View Profile' to check other members. There are a few essential things about the new feature to note. First, Snaps added to Shared Stories will only last for 24 hours. Like streaks with friends, Shared Stories that are updated regularly will also get a fire icon with a counter. Lastly, if the owner of a Shared Story deletes it, all the Snaps in the Story will be erased unless members save their Snaps or take screenshots on Snapchat.
