Crazy Ex-Girlfriend: Rachel Bloom Says Season 4 is the Last

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season Finale Review Rachel Bloom

The CW's Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has been renewed for its fourth season, and lead star and creator Rachel Bloom confirms that it will be the last for the romantic musical comedy-drama.

Tackling the roller-coaster adventure ride of Rebecca Bush's (Bloom) search for love and happiness, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend depicts the lawyer's crazy life in Los Angeles after risking everything she's built for herself in New York following a chance encounter with her first love, Josh Chan. Making the big East to West move, Rebecca settles down in sunny California in the hopes of possibly reconciling with her old flame, not knowing that along the way, she's found some genuine friends in West Covina law firm paralegal Paula, and neighbor Heather, as well as potentially a new lover in Josh's pal, Greg.

Bloom took it to her official Twitter account to celebrate the big news with her followers, while also revealing that the show's forthcoming fourth season will be its last. Obviously, the news is bittersweet for her followers who have followed Rebecca Brunch and her gang's shenanigans since 2015. Her tweet was accompanied by a celebratory pic during her flight to Chicago. In the comments section, one follower asked if she found out through a Variety article, the actress reveals that it was an email from her manager that links to the report which informed her. Bloom further comments on the renewal of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend in an article from THR, explaining why she and her team decided to wrap up the show after only four seasons. As it turns out, the musical comedy-drama is structured to have a definite ending in mind which they plan to execute for the show's forthcoming outing.

"We're a show about a very specific journey in a person's life. And it's not really a sitcom meant to spit out copies of itself. Very early on, we called it a 50-hour movie. I think we're beyond that now. There's always going to be plot movement, so there's only so far I think you can go with that. It could be five, but I think around four would be ideal for us creatively."

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is one of those shows which may not be massively popular but is hailed by TV critics for quite some time now - prompting The CW to continue it despite low ratings. Since its pilot season, the series has been consistently putting out great episodes with a perfectly balanced (thoughtful) narrative and impressive production numbers. Over the years, it has featured several guests like Broadway stars Patty LuPone and Lea Salonga, singer Josh Groban and comedian/actor Patton Oswalt.
