The CW 2015 TV Show Preview Trailers: 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' & 'Containment'

While normally nothing more than the day before Friday, this particular Thursday means something else. It means the end of the annual television upfronts, and with it, the debut of the final network’s trailers for next season… that network being The CW.

So, while DC's Comics'  Legends of Tomorrow is worthy of some focused discussion, there are still two other CW trailers worth checking out. Those trailers being for that of the shows Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Containment.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

The first of the duo is Crazy Ex-Girlfriend starring Rachel Bloom as “Rebecca Bunch, a successful driven, and possibly crazy young woman who impulsively gives up everything in a desperate attempt to find love and suburban West Covina, CA.” The series is created by Rachel Bloom and Aline Brosh McKenna.

The most fascinating thing about Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is the pilot featured in the trailer is actually from one originally shot for Showtime. Following the success of Jane the Virgin, The CW was feeling bold and opted to swipe the show from the premium cable network, expand its runtime to 60 minutes from 30 and “slightly” re-work the language for broadcast television. Whether or not it’s good, it’s certainly going to be one heck of an experiment for the network next fall.

Second on the list we have Containment starring Chris Wood, Claudia Black and David Gyasi as citizens of a section of Atlanta, caught when the city’s hit with a deadly unknown virus with a 100% kill rate for anyone exposed. In order to stop its spread, the city is quarantined, leaving those inside stuck fighting for their lives. The series is created by The Vampire Diaries’ Julie Plec.

The only show on The CW’s slate to go through a traditional in-house pilot development and make it through to the other side, there seems to be a lot of interesting things going on with Containment (formally titled Cordon). The virus angle reminds us a lot of Contagion (not a bad thing), and the cast appears to be doing a bang-up job. It may not be airing until the mid-season, be there appears to be reason for early excitement on this one.
