The voice of Crash Bandicoot is currently working on a new project that may or may not be part of the long-running series. Although the delightfully demented marsupial is mostly mute in the style of classic video game protagonists, his various grunts, laughs, and “whoas” are still provided by Scott Whyte, who first took on the role in last year’s Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time.
Before he stepped into the shoes and sweatpants of Crash Bandicoot, Scott Whyte made a small name for himself in the realm of live-action, with small appearances in movies and shows like That 70’s Show, Full House, and the two Mighty Ducks sequels. He soon carried his talents into voice work, with some of his video game roles including Autobot Jazz in Transformers: War for Cybertron, the sinister drink mascot Fizzie in Sunset Overdrive, and more minor parts in titles like Star Wars: The Old Republic, The Last of Us Part II, and Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
Now, Twitter user Canadian Guy Eh has uncovered an Instagram post from Scott Whyte that teases his involvement in a new project. Whyte describes his latest job as “fun,” but playfully denies that it is a new Crash Bandicoot sequel - though his little aside of “or is it?" and the post also mentioning how much he enjoys working with Lex Lang (the voice of Crash's longtime nemesis Dr. Neo Cortex) has led fans to speculate that it could be a spin-off title at the very least. Some have also wondered if this new game will be officially announced at next month's E3, which has been confirmed to feature publisher Activision.
As mentioned before, Scott Whyte made his debut as Crash in the latest title in the series, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. It released last fall to a fair amount of critical praise, with many fans enjoying its fun new twists on the classic platforming that Naughty Dog made famous back in the mid-90s. However, developer Toys For Bob has since been reassigned to support work on Call of Duty: Warzone last month, a controversial move that has cast some doubt on the future of both the Crash and Spyro The Dragon franchises.
Things might not be so bleak for Crash Bandicoot after all though, if the new project Scott Whyte teased on social media is in fact a new Crash game - which it most likely is. In any case, fans could get their answers in a few short weeks during the upcoming E3 livestream on the week of June 12 to June 15.
