Craig T. Nelson’s towering height is practically his trademark, but just how tall is he? Depending on who his co-stars are, actor Craig T. Nelson can either look really tall or more like a guy of regular stature. One of Nelson’s shorter co-stars was Tom Cruise, who he starred opposite in 1983 sports drama All The Right Moves and was recently dropped from the Jack Reacher franchise for being too short to play its six-foot five-inch tall protagonist. Nelson also towered over Al Pacino – who measures in at around five foot seven inches – in the films And Justice For All and The Devil’s Advocate.

In the Sam Peckinpah thriller The Osterman Weekend, Nelson was a tad more evenly matched in height with co-star Rutger Hauer, who stood at over six feet tall. Late Native American actor Will Sampson of One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest fame even made Nelson look comparably short when the two appeared in 1986 horror sequel Poltergeist II: The Other Side.

One of Nelson’s best-known roles was playing college football coach Hayden Fox on ABC sitcom Coach which ran for nine seasons between 1989 and 1997. One of his co-stars on Coach was the exceptionally tall Bill Fagerbakke (AKA voice of Patrick Star on SpongeBob SquarePants) who – at six foot six inches – dwarfed Nelson by a good few inches. That’s because, according to Celeb Heights, Craig T. Nelson’s height is approximately just over six foot and three inches.

There must be something about Nelson’s looming height that screams “sports coach” to casting directors because he’s played a number of them throughout his career. His character opposite Tom Cruise in All The Right Moves was a high school football coach and he also played a coach in Blades Of Glory and – more recently – in Young Sheldon. His intimidating height has also seen him cast as several law enforcement characters like Chief Jack Mannion in the CBS crime drama The District, Chief Howard Hyde in buddy cop movie Turner & Hooch and Dallas cop Tom Carr in miniseries To Serve And Protect.

Craig T. Nelson’s height even seems to inform the few voiceover roles he’s taken. One of his earliest roles was an uncredited part voicing the role of a giant claymation idol called the Great God Porno (yes, really) in 1974 sexploitation flick Flesh Gordon. More recently, in Pixar’s superhero epic  The Incredibles and its sequel, Nelson voiced Bob Parr (AKA Mr. Incredible) who is a tad taller than the actor, clocking in at six foot seven inches.
