The deeper players advance in Valheim and establish a sort of civilization, the more advanced crafting materials and stations they are going to need to keep up with the dangers they will face. When a player's Viking character is first dropped off in the Meadows of Valheim by Hugin, they will have nothing but a simple tunic and will need to gather materials with their bare hands. Over time, they will be able to craft stone tools, then stronger tools and equipment made from various metals. To make these items, players will build new crafting stations, including a Smelter and Forge. Eventually, to make the best gear in the game capable of taking on the final boss in the Early Access version, players will need Linen Thread.

Linen Thread is a main ingredient in the Padded Armor set, the best armor currently in the game, and is used to craft some of the strongest weapons as well. Players will want gear made from it before they face the final boss. To make Linen Thread, players will need to spin Flax, which grows in the Plains biome, especially in the Fuling Villages. They will also need a Spinning Wheel. This is a late-game crafting station that won't open for players until they have defeated the fourth boss, Moder. Here's how to craft the Spinning Wheel and use it to make Linen Thread in Valheim.

To get many of the late-game crafting stations, which include the Windmill, Blast Furnace, and Spinning Wheel, players will need to summon and defeat Moder, the dragon boss for the Mountains biome and the fourth boss in the game. When players defeat Moder, she will drop Dragon Tears, which are required to craft the Artisan Table from the Workbench.

The Artisan's Table requires players to have 10 Wood and 2 Dragon Tear. To build it, players will need to do the following:

  • Select the Hammer from the hotbar or inventory.
  • Press F to open the Crafting tab.
  • Press Q or E to switch to the Artisan Table.
  • Use the left mouse button to place the table.

Like the other work tables, players will need to make sure the Artisan Table is sheltered with four walls and a roof.

It does not take much for players to build the Spinning Wheel. They will need the following materials:

By this time, players should have crafted and used Iron Nails before. They can use a single Iron ingot, made by cooking Scrap Iron in a Smelter and receive 10 Nails.

Players will need to get Flax to start using the Spinning Wheel. They can find this plant in the Plains biome, and it will only grow in the Plains biome. The first time players find it, they should make a point to plant it either at base or somewhere they will remember so they will always have a steady supply for Linen Thread. Converting one Flax at the Spinning Wheel will yield one Linen Thread.
