WARNING! Major spoilers for The Craft: Legacy ahead.

The Craft: Legacy concluded with several major questions answered about the fate of the main character as well as what an original cast member's cameo means for the future of the movie series. Zoe Lister-Jones's soft sequel to the 1996 cult classic The Craft takes the opportunity to make an all-new coven of diverse witches with a sense of who they are and what their magical capabilities can do, good and bad. While it initially appeared as though The Craft: Legacy would be a thoughtful retelling of the original, with only subtle connections, it proved otherwise. With its shocking reveals came even a wealth of questions that remain unanswered.

The movie stars Cailee Spaeny as Lily, a teenage girl who has just moved back to her hometown with her adoptive mother Helen (Michelle Monaghan) to live with her new stepfather Adam, portrayed by The X-Files' David Duchovny. During her first day at her new school, she discovers that she is the destined fourth of a coven consisting of Tabby (Lovie Simone), Lourdes (Zoey Luna), and Frankie (Gideon Aldon). As the movie progresses, it is revealed that Adam is apart of his own coven of male witches and that he wants nothing more than to take Lily's immense powers. Her magical strengths were passed down to her by her birth mother, Fairuza Balk's Nancy Downs.

Fairuza Balk's cameo was one of the biggest reveals in the filmespecially the fact that she is Lily's mother. Once Nancy Downs appeared on screen, small pieces of her past were revealed but it also brought up several major questions that were left unanswered. It is likely that they will be given a resolve once The Craft 3 is released, but, as of now, they are some of the biggest mysteries left after The Craft: Legacy. Here are the biggest unanswered questions after The Craft 2.

Who Is Lily's Father?

When Lily discovered her adoption papers, she uncovered three very important pieces of information to herself and the audience: she was adopted, her full name is Lilith, and her father is unknown. Her adoptive mother explains to her that she was her birth mother's nurse at a crisis center after she experienced trauma. It is alluded that this event likely led to her pregnancy with Lily. Her birth mother is Nancy Downs (explaining Fairuza Banks' cameo return), who played the villainous role in the original The Craft coven who called upon the deity Manon to grant her immense power. After the battle at Sarah's house, Nancy was placed in an institution and her powers were bound, supposedly for good.

There are two individuals who could be Lily's biological father: Manon or Adam. When Nancy made her deal with Manon and became the most powerful out of everyone in her coven, it is likely that the binding of her powers displeased him after granting her such great gifts. The deity is known for being stronger than any other force on Earth and beyond it, meaning he theoretically has the power to impregnate the living. This doesn't necessarily explain the trauma, which leads to the other theory that it could be Adam who fathered Lily. The Craft: Legacy revealed that he is also a strong witch who wants Manon's gifts that were granted to Lily as her birthright. It is possible that he assaulted Nancy in hopes of gaining her powers or creating a male heir to his century long bloodline of powerful witches, but Lily was surrendered to Helen before he could do anything about it. Either is feasible, but only The Craft 3 can provide a concrete answer.

What Actually Happened To Nancy Downs?

After The Craft, it was assumed that Fairuza Balk's Nancy Downs would live out the rest of her days in an institution. The Craft: Legacy takes place twenty-four years after the events of the first movie. At this point, Lily is approximately sixteen years old, which means that Nancy likely gave birth to her in 2004.

What happened to Nancy between 1996 and 2004 is relatively unknown except for her experience with trauma and remaining in an institution. It is somewhat alluded to that she may have left the original hospital when Helen explains to Lily that her mother was in a crisis center. Psychiatric institutions are not commonly referred to as crisis centers, which could mean that Nancy was discharged at some point, went back to living her day to day life, and then a trauma caused her to go to a woman's shelter of some kind. When Lily meets her, she appears to be in a hospital. This could mean that Nancy signed herself into a facility to stay safe from whatever caused her harm so many years ago. The Craft 3 will have to answer the following questions: Did Nancy ever leave the first institution? Who assaulted her? And are they the reason she is back in the hospital?

What Will Happen To Adam's Sons?

The Craft Legacy Adam's Sons

Adam's sons played a small role in the overall story of The Craft: Legacy but they are also three of the most important characters that could change the trajectory of the movie series in several ways. It is revealed that Adam comes from a long line of male witches that span hundreds of years, his sons are heirs to his position of power and carry his magical genes. While the youngest is friendly and somewhat kind, the eldest two are stand-offish and aggressive towards women. It is likely that Lister-Jones intends to use them as a way to explore how magic works in the world of The Craft

Another possibility is that they will form their own coven in honor of their father and seek revenge against Lily, Lourdes, Tabby, and Frankie for killing him. They are obviously very powerful based on Adam's abilities but there may be another element that grants them strength. They are the sons of Adam, who was believed to be the first man in Christian belief. Lilith was his first wife before she was turned away from the Garden of Eden and obviously, Lily's full name is Lilith. There is a much deeper connection between Lily's form of magic and the magic that Adam's ancestors have passed down for hundreds of years that need to be explored. It is possible that Lily is Adam's daughter, but it is also likely that she stands as a threat to his ideology of Eden, which his sons will uphold in his honor. The three sons may not appear to be important at this moment, but The Craft 3 may make them an unbelievably strong force fighting against the coven.

The Craft: Legacy is a strong addition to The Craft movie series, but its unanswered questions leave a good deal to interpretation. In order to provide fans and viewers with any kind of resolve, The Craft 3 must receive the green light and answer these major questions. Until then, The Craft: Legacy merely scrapes the surface of what happened to Nancy, who Lily's father is, and if Adam's sons will pose a threat to the coven. Hopefully, more answers will be coming.
