The first full trailer for Netflix’s live-action remake of the Cowboy Bebop anime is set to debut in a special live event on October 26. The series will be based on the extremely popular anime of the same name, which ran in the late 1990s in Japan before debuting in the US from 2001. The series follows a ragtag group of travelling bounty hunters in the year 2071 as they take up missions on their spaceship: the Bebop. Cowboy Bebop helped popularise anime for western audiences in the 2000s, and is seen as a gateway series to new fans and enthusiasts. The space-western is known for combining several genres, while also exploring deeper sub-themes of loneliness and contemplation.

In late 2018, Netflix acquired the rights to a live-action adaptation of the show. Many hardcore fans were sceptical after the recent adaptations of Ghost In The Shell and Death Note, the latter of which being a Netflix original that many said failed to capture the source material. The new series, however, will involve many of the original anime’s cast and creatives, including the original composer Yoko Kanno, who returns to score. The series is being written by Christopher Yost, who has experience in comic book adaptations, being a writer on several Marvel cartoons and Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. The cast of the show have been welcomed by fans too, with Star Trek Beyond’s John Cho starring as iconic hero Spike Spiegel, Daniella Pineda as Faye Valentine, and Mustafa Shakir as Jet Black.

Earlier this year, Netflix released the full opening title sequence for the series, proving its faithfulness to the source material. The title video was a complete recreation of the anime’s original titles, complete with opening theme song "Tank" by the Japanese band Seatbelts. Adding to the Cowboy Bebop series hype, earlier this week the streaming service released an extended teaser showcasing characters Spike, Jet and Faye in their live-action glory in a sequence that creatively captured the visual anime style.

Fans will no doubt be excited for the upcoming event, with a chance to see some of their favorite moments from the original show make it into the new version. Some may still remain cautiously optimistic, but the Netflix show looks to be staying as true to the anime as it possibly can through atmospheric lighting and graphic effects. Also, an opportunity to hear from cast and crew as special guests before the trailer drops could provide fans with a chance to learn more about the Cowboy Bebop adaptation before it drops in November this year.
